El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya?

We are considering going to the El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya on April 1st - 8th this year and I was just curious if anyone had ever stayed there and had any options about it or recommendations for other resorts in the area.  We would like the price of the resort and flight to stay under $4,000.

TIA!!

  • I didnt stay there but I visited for the day, I loved it. I just booked my best friends honeymoon for her to go there!

  • Go back 1-2 pages and there is a post on this resort.  I had a good experience there.
  • We were on a mexico kick for awhile and did stay at El Dorado Royale twice because we had RCI timeshare.  The first time it was okay to good.  The second time, I was over it.  The beach is just so horrible, I have no idea why we even returned a second time.  The second stay we discovered that the pools were now saltwater pools.  Couldn't swim laps because it stung my eyes and all I tasted was salt (don't know if that's changed since...this was in 2005).  The food was average and the service was poor.  Try Royal Hideaway.  All inclusive, great food and service.  Close to PDC.  Better beach.
  • We went here for our honeymoon. Nice grounds. Beach is not that great. We booked through a travel agent and when we arrived, we were told all the restaurants were booked for the week we were there. So, we were unable to get reservations for any nights, we had to show up and wait at the places we wanted to eat. Kind of a turn off. The spa tub in our room had a leak, so they did upgrade our room. We also both got food poisoning while we were there, eating exclusively at the resort. I would not return.

  • We went to EDR for our honeymoon, and had nothing but wonderful things to say when we got back.  You won't regret going.  :)
