Spaghetti Squash Question

How long will a spaghetti squash last? It's in the fridge right now.

I bought it on Wednesday to cook tomorrow, but plans came up last minute, and I won't be cooking after all tomorrow. Will it keep til Thursday when I have time to cook it? Monday through Wednesday I have to make quick dinners since we have early evening plans each night.

Re: Spaghetti Squash Question

  • I'm not 100% certain, but according to yahoo answers if they are uncut they could last months...if cut they could last 1-2 weeks. If they start to darken and soften they should be tossed.
  • I would probably tend to agree with yahoo.  I had a half (so cut) in my fridge for about a week and I was able to eat it and it tasted fine.

It is a squash, so it kind of smells when you cut it in half anyway (kind of like the inside of a pumpkin) so don't let that deter you from eating it.

  • Great, thanks! I'm glad it seems like I won't have to waste it.

    Edited for clarification

  • I'm making it for the first time tomorrow! I bought mine last weekend and I haven't had doubts it'll be fine tomorrow.

  • I was so excited to make it tonight, but my grandmother is having dinner since my sisters are leaving for college again this week. So we will be waiting til Thursday now... Let me know how it turns out! I'm kinda nervous about it, because I am a pasta spaghetti lover!

  • stilltasty.com is my go-to place for figuring out if something's gone bad or not. According to them, as long as it's not cut, it will last for 1 to 2 months out on your counter (it doesn't need to be refrigerated, it actually damages the squash if it's refrigerated). Good luck with it! The first time I made it, I accidentally undercooked it a bit, so the strands were a bit crunchy. But it was still good. :)

That looks like a great website! Thank you!
