HR People - Choking at work
My boss choked during lunch yesterday. Another employee performed the heimlich maneuver on him. My boss then threw up and continued to cough a lot. He then went to the bathroom and began choking on blood. Our HR rep and other directors were not in the building when it happened so once our HR rep got back from lunch yesterday, I told her what happended and that my boss was still unable to talk and was still coughing. She said she couldn't make him go get checked out. Is that correct?
I'm worried about my boss, he can barely speak this morning. He lives alone and has some other medical problems as well. I've asked him repeatedly to call his doctor but he won't.

If it happens again, I would call 911.
Sadly there's not much you can do if he's not willing to go to the doctor.
They cannot force you to see your doctor, to my understanding.
But they could call 911 and it would be up to the patient to decline treatment.
It's not like he tripped and fell or any other type of work related injury they would be liable for. I would be concerned that the person did the Heimlich correctly and didn't cause any injury or whatnot.
I would have called 911 if he had any other issues but he didn't. I beeged him on Friday to at least call his doctor because he was having pain/diffucutly talking still. It's now Wednesday, and he still isn't able to talk normally, so he said this morning he will call his doctor.
I'm still just relieved he didn't choke again!
