DH's Age of Enlightenment

DH is really making a concerted effort to eat better and exercise more this year.  I'm really proud of him for the level of effort he is making.  But I'm having a very hard time fighting back the laughter as he makes his "discoveries" along the way.  Here is a sampling:

"OMG, honey, did you know bananas have a TON of sugar?"  Yes, dear.  Yes, I did.

After I offered him some popcorn I was making from scratch, "no way!  Popcorn is really bad for you!"  Uh, no it isn't.  It's the crap you put on it that is bad.  He goes off suspicious of my statement.  Seconds later.  "Holy cow!  Did you know popcorn is one of the best things to eat and has a lot of fiber?"  Yes, yes, I did.  Of course I also loved watching his face as he attempted to eat it plain.

"BTW, did you know that Panda Express is actually not that healthy?"  No kidding, Sherlock.  What I have been telling you for years.

"Hey, honey, I tried this new exercise program and guess what -- it said for my goals and level, I should work out 3x a week."  Mind you, this is exactly what I told him, as it was important to let his body rest in between as he wasn't used to working out a lot.

Re: DH's Age of Enlightenment

  • Isn't that funny?  I think sometimes men just have to figure it out for themselves.
  • Oh girl- sometimes I think we married the same man!

Maybe your DH can tell my DH that eating a whole Chipotle Burrito is not a good idea!

  • Just watch out.

When my DH went down this path it turned into him eating all kinds of insane foods that even I won't touch.  I hope he can find a good balance and not turn into a food nazi like my DH.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Ugh, it's too late.  He already found an app that lets him zap the barcode and calculate calorie intake.  I told him that is completely unrealistic and doesn't take into account all factors (like the salt on the broccoli or the reduced fat potatoes au gratin that I make from scratch) but he still types it in.  I'm doomed.

  • So funny!  I've been there with DH too.  He doesn't care to do much research on anything though so he typically trusts me when I say things (although he probably doesn't listen the first 3 times I say them).  Funny you mention bananas because DH would bring them to work all the time when he was trying to lose weight and a coworker (who is sponsored by Slimgenics and has lost weight) said, "bananas make you fat, you can't eat those if you want to lose weight".  DH comes home and tells me this and I ask him, "have you ever met anyone who got fat just because they ate bananas?"  Duh.  I find that DH (and obvi this coworker) get stuck on one facet of health (you mentioned the calorie counter app, DH's coworker doesn't eat fruit because it's too sugary but he eats chemical laden junk all day long) instead of looking at the big picture.  Men...  ugh...
