We're thinking about going to Hawaii for our private wedding & honeymoon. How do we decide which island to visit? I took an online quiz last night and based on what we like to do and it pointed us to Maui. We both love beaches, sightseeing, shopping (for me), bike tours and great restaurants. I'm sure we couldn't go wrong with any island but wanted to get your opinions.
We're planning on going in mid Sept. should we be concerned with hurricane season?
Also if you have recommendations on where to stay or what to do, please let me know! TIA!
Re: Which island in Hawaii?
Based on what you posted, I would say Maui or Oahu, but Maui would be more romantic for a wedding. Food in Kauai is limited in terms of options and run-of-the-mill. Shopping is almost non-existent. I think Kauai is more for nature lovers and, when we went in October, the weather would change constantly....overcast, drizzle, sun....repeat. Maui was consistently sunny.
I agree with Missywong. We went to Maui and Kauai for our honeymoon. We loved Maui but were a little more meh on Kauai. It was lovely, but kind of boring. Maui is also beautiful, and has nice attractions, but also has more in the way of town life.
We went for two weeks in September and one morning (out of 12) it was overcast. Otherwise, it was hot but the weather was great (and the overcast morning was easily cured by driving to Haleakala that day, where the weather was great -- weather can vary greatly even if you only travel a few miles. I don't think that Hawaii is subject to hurricanes?
I think Maui would suit you just fine. Kauai is a little quiet; and the beaches on the Big Island aren't the greatest since it's so new, plus the shopping isn't so hot. I will say that you can get both a relaxing and city experience on Oahu. The North Shore and the Windward side are beautiful and quieter, and then Waikiki has lots of activity, including great food and shopping. Plus I think Lanikai Beach is just about the most gorgeous beach in the world for a wedding!
Hurricanes are incredibly rare in Hawaii, especially for a direct hit. And if there isn't one nearby the weather in September is just about perfect -- not too hot, a little too early for the rain, and the ocean is still pretty calm.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

I think Maui is a great choice for you guys. It has really nice beaches, cute shopping towns, and lots of activities. I've been to Maui twice, the Big Island twice, and we're going to Kauai in March. I prefer Maui over the Big Island. We only went twice to the Big Island because the second trip was free.
I've been wanting to go to Kauai for years. We are nature lovers, so I'm assuming it'll be our favorite island.
Our favorite island is Kauai with Lana'i a close second. We did not like Maui very much. It was nice but we are definitely nature lovers that love to be away from others. I agree that Maui is probably your best bet.
If you are picking one Maui. There are so many facets to Maui. I love Kauai, but it is a little more laid back. Whereever you choose. Get the revealed blue books. Best money I have ever spent on books.
