So what did you think of the whole Pricilla of Boston thing?
Re: So what did you think of the whole Pricilla of Boston thing?
This is probably going to be UO, but it is their merchandise and they can do what they want with the dresses.
Do I think it was a waste? Yes, but again, it was their property.
When I heard that they're owned by David's, it didn't surprise me the way it was handled. (it took me months to get myself off their "partner business" calling lists even after being more than specific about not wanting to be added to them in the first place.)
I guess I would have liked to see the gowns re-purposed in some way be it as donations or even taken apart and made into other things but I also understand that it was their merchandise to do with as they pleased and that is what they chose. I don't know what they expected to happen with such blatant destruction though. Granted all I saw was the media spin, but it seemed almost as if they were flaunting it which, if it was the case, they have no reason to be surprised at the outcome.
I wish that they had been donated, but ou know whatever. Personally I think it's insane to charge and/or pay $4000+ for a wedding dress, but I'm surprised they didn't want to auction them just to get rid of the inventory anyway. (Says the girl who wore a $150 ebay dress.)

I agree with all of that. (Says the girl who wore a $2600 Lazaro that cost $249 at a sample sale...)
:-)
This...
I think they'd have saved themselves money and good PR though if they'd had just called up one of the prom dress donation or Goodwill that specifically sells/donates formalwear, or hooked up with an upper-end consignment store and taken the tax deduction along with the fact that the dumpster that they had paid for cost upwards of $350+ (more than likely about $450 range if it was a larger one) so they weren't saving themselves anything my wrecking the dresses. But again, their property, their decision...
