Ft Myers

We are planning to go to Ft Myers in March for DH's bday. We are going to Spring Training, but I don't know anything else about Ft Myers. Anyone have recs for what to do, where to stay, and where to eat?

Thanks!

Re: Ft Myers

  • Spring Training is awesome! You guys will have a great time!

H's parents live in Cape Coral, so we used to see the Sox (Red, of course) and the Twins in CC and Ft M.  We stayed with the folks, so I'm not great on hotels, but I will say nearby Sanibel  island is beautiful and that's probably where I'd try to stay and just commute in for the games.

    Have fun!

  • There are lots of nice resorts in the area. We like Pink Shell on Fort Myers Beach. Sanibel is also nice.

You could also always stay in Naples. Or the South Seas resort - I think on Marco Island.

    Have fun!

  • I would recommend staying in Ft. Myers Beach. The Pink Shell is nice and I also really like The Outrigger. If you are going to be there on a Sunday, you have to go to The Bridge. Its a really great seafood place that serves amazing food right on the water and on Sunday evenings they have a reggae party with live bands. Really fun. Then you can walk over the Bridge. The view overlooking the gulf is soooo pretty. Lots of cute little bars right when you get into Ft. Myers Beach, making for a fun pub crawl, too. Also in Bonita Springs is the Shell Factory where you can yes buy shells, but the best part is Waltzing Waters. Its a water and light show set to music and Im not sure if I love it because we used to go when I was a kid or I love it because its pretty, but I love it! And Jungle Larrys is fun,its an alligator park and I think its in Bonita Springs too.
  • We go to FM/Bonita Springs area every winter to visit my snowbird parents.  FMB in March may be crazy-busy with spring-breakers(college and families), however, if you go we really like Diamondhead Resort. Sanibel is nice, however, a little too tame for us. For restaurant recs on FMB - Beached Whale(yummy beach bread and grouper sandwiches, as well as a great view from their upstairs deck), Tuckaway Bagel(great bagels and waffles), Baywalk Cafe(the best Key Lime cookies), Smokin' Oyster (good oysters, drinks), Surf Pie(decent pizza and they deliver).  I could go on and on.....we typically eat/drink our way down the strip.

In FM I recommend Manatee Park, hundreds of manatees and you can kayak if you would like.  Naples has some great resturants.  We stayed there for a couple of nights in December and while we were the youngest at our resort by at least 30 years we still had a good time.  5th Ave has tons of shops & restaurants.  The Everglades are only about an hour and a half away and everyone needs to go on at least one airboat ride.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
