We will be flying Continental to England. Anyone know if we could put the booster seat (full booster with a back) in a duffle bag instead of a real car seat bag? Last time we traveled from back from Aruba they did not have bags and just tagged the car seat and the booster back can be separated from the seat and only one was tagged so it could have been a disaster, instead we had to carry half of it on the plane which was a PITA, I really want to put it in a bag but am being cheap and don't want to buy one but am trying to figure out if they would still consider it a free item as a car seat or if it would become luggage.
It will probably not matter at all since we will unlikely hit our maximum free luggage amount since DH has Platinum Elite status but I am not positive yet.
Re: Travel with car seat
My concerns with that is I have heard such mixed reviews about the condition of car seats when you rent them. And I have no idea how that works for DS, he is too big for most car seats and needs a booster but would never let him travel with backless booster. I guess I should look into this more.

I would never take a seat on the plane for a child over the age of about 18 months. We travel often internationally with our kids and that is about the age when they are big enough to kick the seat in front of them when in the car seat and you will spend the entire flight getting them not to.
The other thing is that they can pull their legs on their seat and curl up comfortably, in a car seat their legs would dangle for 6 hours (or 15 when we go to Hong Kong next year.) And I don't think any boosters are approved for airline travel but could be wrong.
What bag do you have that is padded? I am actually considering bringing a carry-on luggage for the booster seat, it would fit.
