Honeymoon Help

We are in the process of buying a new house and putting most of our money towards that, so we are trying to decide on a budget location for our honeymoon. We want to spend between $1500 and $2000 total on hotel + transportation. We are leaving from Florida in October. We don't want to just lay on the beach because we can do that anytime in FL :0) We want our trip to be between 4 and 7 nights. Being in a nice-ish, comfortable hotel is a priority. We really enjoy being outdoors, wine, a little culture. We probably want at least 1-2 days to be somewhat relaxing. Any suggestions for us? We travel fairly often, so less traditional ideas are welcome!

  • A nice B&B in Charlesrton?

    San Francisco?

  • Charleston, Savannah, Asheville, a cabin in the TN or N GA mountains,

  • Traverse City, MI has a nice winery tour along with great food.

  • October will be gorgeous in the NC mountains! Well, depending on when you come. (Although I think it's always gorgeous!) Leaves are past peak by the end of October in the Northern NC mountains (Boone, Blowing Rock), but mid-October is perfect there. The Asheville area peaks a little later, probably mid to later October.

Both areas have great hiking. The Boone/Blowing Rock area has Grandfather Mountain (hiking, mile-high swinging bridge, animal habitats), Blue Ridge Parkway nearby, good restaurants. Asheville has the Biltmore House, Chimney Rock, good restaurants and lots more that others could tell you more about than I can.

NC has a growing wine industry, so there are tons of wineries, but they would be a drive to get to.

If you are flying, you would probably fly into CLT, but if you are in the northern part of Florida, it's not a bad drive.

    Have fun whatever you do!

  • What about the northern VA wine region? We love L'Auberge Provencale (http://www.laubergeprovencale.com/index.html). Beautiful property, fantastic restaurant and right near many wineries.

  • Since you are already in FL, how about a cruise?  You can get some cheap fares being in state.

The dining rooms are fairly classy.  Depending on the ship you can dress up or go casual.  Most ships have great wine lists.  There is entertainment & you can check out local culture at all the ports.

NOLA is also a good option.

  • With that budget I would do a cruise.

This is a great suggestion. You can spend a few days touring the wineries, a day or two hiking around Sleeping Bear Dunes, a day exploring Traverse itself...it is gorgeous up there in October.
