MSWs (since there seems to be many of you!)

I am in the process of applying for my advanced placement.  I am new to the area and need some help.  My school (BU) has about seven options for Maine and I know there has to be more.

Basically, I'm looking for outpatient work.  My current internship is at state psych hospital and I'm learning a ton.  But I have inpatient experience through this placement and working at another psych hospital.

My desired population is adults, but I'm flexible.  I would like the opportunity to run groups as well.

Oh, and don't worry - I know I have a lot to learn from my supervisor.  And I'm not a hot mess, I promise.  : )

So, any suggestions of places to look into?  I live in Lyman so Biddeford/Saco would be ideal, but I'm not opposed to going to Portland.

Re: MSWs (since there seems to be many of you!)

  • unfortunately, children's services are what I am most familiar with.  What about something like Tri County crisis, ACT team, outpatient counseling?  Saco screams Sweetser to me, but there is also St. Andre's in Biddeford.  What about Dr.'s offices?  Many are starting to have clinicians to provide patients with extra support.
  • Places I can think of that offer outpatient for adults in that area would be Community Counseling in Portland and CSI in York County.  I don't know if Sweetser has outpatient down there; I know they have outpatient in Brunswick.

  • Thanks ladies!  I know Sweetser is on the list of BU connections.  You gave me some good ideas.
