In a week in Barcelona, 2 day trips too much?
Hi all,
We are going to Barcelona for the 1st time at the end of February. We'll have 7 full days/nights, arriving and leaving on Monday mornings.
I am sure we could easily spend the whole time in the city with so much to see and do, but a day trip (or two!) is very tempting as well. One trip I'd like to do is Montserrat; please help me decide whether we even need the second one, and if yes, which:
1. Girona
2. Figueres
3. Sitges
I like the idea of each of these places, for different reasons; which would you recommend? (I've already looked up the travel times; please comment on the experience

Thanks much!

Re: In a week in Barcelona, 2 day trips too much?
I think 2 day trips in not out of the question.
I've been to both places and I feel that Montserrat should not to be missed. Yes, it can get quite crowded but it is an amazing experience and the scenery from the top of the mountain is incredible. You can take a cable car to the top (I passed on that one, TYVM!) or drive. Will you have a car? I remember the line up the mountain was so long and we were in line for hours.
Sitges was nice but, not much there in terms of a day trip, if I remember correctly. We passed through rather quickly. The only reason we even went there, was to see the beach and because my dad lived there for several years.
IMHO, Tarragona is worth the trip, more than Sitges. I loved that little town so much that I would live there in a heartbeat! It is right on the Mediterranean with beautiful sites all around the town. There you can see and walk in one of the best preserved Roman ruins, The Roman Ampitheater, which is located right on the sea. The beaches there are beautiful.
If you like museums, the Dali is in Figueres.
L'isle Sur la Sorgue, Provence
I haven't considered Tarragona before, but it sure does look good
Thank you for the suggestion!
we didn't hit any of those places (we had a shorter time in Barcelona though as we went up to San Seb...)
my piece of advice is to only go to Las Ramblas once (you really don't need to spend a whole lot of time there) and to be sure to get your tix to Sagrada Familia in advice. We skipped a very very long line during our visit and walked right up to the gate b/c we had our tickets.
Yes, I think two day trips would be fine, as long as you adjust to jet lag well.
I agree with Montserrat--definitely one to see. Tarragona for me was nice but not extraordinary, but I was there in January and so perhaps it is better in summer. There were some interesting sites, and I agree that the Roman Ampitheater is quite nice.
I have not been to Girona or Sitges.
Figures--well, if you like Dali a lot, it is worth the trip. Otherwise, I found it fairly uninteresting.
We did Valencia as a day trip too. Sure, it was a long day, but it was really nice!
Remember you can also play things by ear, choosing one day trip in advance and booking the other if you run out of things to see.
We're contemplating visiting Barcelona while we're in EU in April (I'm really hoping we do b/c the more research I do, the more I want to go!).
We'd be there for 4 days and would go to Tarragona one day. I think 2 day trips seems reasonable. Tarragona looks amazing and pretty easy to get to. I'd definitely consider this if I were you!
