I am in love with about 4 or 5 dresses and the are all out of my price range. I'm trying to find them on the designer's website so I can shop around but have only found one for sure and possibly 2 of the others.
I was against traditional until I tried them on and now I can't NOT wear a traditional wedding dress. My mom went with me and she had so much fun and so did I! I need to win the lottery. All were within the $800-$900 range and that is without getting straps made and attached.
Here are the ones I found online that I tried on...still looking for the others. I may have remembered the designer incorrectly and that's why I can't find them all.
This was the first one I tried on and I would get drapey straps made out of the fabric they use from the hem:

Here's one of the Casablanca dresses I liked. I would also get strap and a shawl made out of the detachable train. I'm not 100% sure that this is the one I tried on, but it's very similar. I wanted to wear this one out of the bridal shop I loved it so much. It was actually in my size so I could really see how it would look on me and I had people in the shop telling me how nice it looked. It was very flattering on me. I can see that A-line dresses are what I need to look for. I really wish I could find the other ones I liked. There was one with straps that was very flattering and very pretty.:
Re: I tried on wedding dresses today! Long and PIP
That Casablanca dress is gorgeous. If it made you feel that good, I'd find room for it in the budget. Feeling good in your dress is a pretty integral part of the wedding day, LOL.
I had a Maggie dress and I loved it. I had been so anti-strapless and anti-corset when I shopped for a dress, but damn if that wasn't what looked best and felt best. If I get married again I'd probably buy another one, just not a ball gown.
i love the maggie....i also wore a maggie dress.
try pearls place after you pick the dress you want and they will sell it to you at a discount. i ordered my aggie through the and saved acouple of hundred dollars.
Wow! Pretty! Work an extra job for it- that is how I got my dream dress. Mine was similar. Halar by Pronovias was mine.
Thanks everyone! I love them both, but this was the first place that I've looked, so I may find something else that I love that's less money somewhere else.
Also, thanks for the tip on Pearl's Place and the pre-owned dresses. I've found a couple of the Maggie dresses pre-owned, but the sizes were way too small. I'm going to keep my eye on that site though in case one gets added.
Don't forget you can alter up to 2 sizes. I found some casablancas that I really liked and googled them to find them at cheaper prices. I didn't end up picking one of those, but google is your friend!
Yay - have you picked a date yet Mort? How exciting!
We haven't picked a date yet. We still have to make a list of who we want to invite so we know what we're looking for in a venue. There's a bridal show my mom and I are going to at the end of the month, so I'm hoping I'll get some venue ideas there. Then we'll be able to set a firm date!
I've been googling dresses, but a lot of knock-off sites come up. I'm not sure what's legit. I'll have to do a better search tomorrow.
Ohhh, those dresses are beautiful, Mort! I'm glad you tried on some traditional gowns. I LOVE the lace dress. There is something really classic and elegant about it. When I was trying on dresses, nothing - including the Amsale I ended up getting married in - flattered my figure like a Maggie. Those d@mn corset bodices do the trick. If you aren't into the look of a corset back there's the option of sizing up so it can be cinched up all the way to just close off the back of the dress, or some of them now have a panel over the corset.
Maybe I missed it but did you get to check out that wine bar - did it look reasonable?
