Hi all,
Long time lurker here! I just booked tickets for my husband & I to Paris for 12 nights July 5 - 17 (thanks, miles!). I would love a few suggestions!
- What's the best arrondissement(s) to stay in? I was there almost 7 years ago studying abroad, and stayed in the Latin Quarter, right across from Notre Dame. Don't really remember much, so would love some suggestions. We just booked Hotel de l'Avre as a placeholder (free cancellation, not charged ahead of time) but are also considering switching to an apartment or other location if something else looks more enticing.
- We're considering going to see the Tour de France as a day trip. Has anyone ever done this? Any suggestions as far as the best place to go, logistics, etc?
- Also considering doing a few nights in the Alps. Not totally tied to where we go but are a little obsessed with Gimmewald. Also open to suggestions/ideas as far as location, length of time spent there, how to get there, etc.
We're on a budget (would like to stay in the $125ish night hotel). Looking for cute, romantic, small suggestions - no big box or huge hotels here. Love things with character, in locals areas.
Thanks so much!!
Re: Apartments in Paris & Alps suggestions
Search for the recent posts about Paris on this board.
I prefer the 4th, 5th and 6th. Where you stayed before is perfect.
Go to the Fusac paper link below and if you search through you will find many different apartment listing agencies to search through for apartments.
When I watched the tour when it came through Paris, I managed to get on the ferris wheel in Tuileries and found that to be the most amazing vantage point watching the cyclists circle around below every time we went up.

I posted last week about Help Me Choose a Paris Apt.
We're going in April and have finding several apts in the $150 USD price point. It may be harder to find something for $125; but I'm sure it's doable. We're looking in Arros 7 or 6/Latin Quarter.
(I actually blogged about our apt search recently. I have a few apt websites posted and my experience with each if you're iterested)
