Is it a big deal between airports to get to and from airport to Manhattan? I will be traveling with my mom and daughter so I don't want to stress too much. Tickets are cheaper to JFK and I don't mind a longer trip to Manhattan. It is just getting back to the airport for the flight home. Would it be a big deal time-wise to get to JFK for a 5:00 flight (rush hour)? TIA

I've flown out of JFK twice in the past three months, both times on a Sunday afternoon when you would expect traffic would not be a huge issue. You'd be wrong both times. Also, the security lines at JFK are consistently terrible, and I don't understand why (no other airport I fly through - and I fly through a LOT - have security lines like I see there). If they ever offered a non-stop SFO-LGA flight I'd book it in a second, no matter the cost; we only fly JFK because it's non-stop.
Just FYI, the cab from JFK to Manhattan runs around $50 each way and it easily took us an hour to get from Manhattan to JFK to go home. When we had a 6:00 flight, we left for the airport at 3:00 PM. This allowed us to get through security just as they started boarding our flight. HTH.
Not a big deal. LGA is closer, but not by all that much. One note if you don't take public transportation (I never do) -- a lot of cabbies go off-duty around 3 pm so it can be hard to find someone. I'd either add some time in for that, or look into car service that you can book ahead of time (services like Carmel and Dial 7s cost around the same as a cab anyway).
Newark is another option to look into.
Yeah, I'd agree that it's pretty easy, but it can be a pain to lug bags around through that many transfers. If you've got an LO, it might not be your best option.
