I saw your FB update about the Haight Ashbury district and your H not knowing about it. I guess it's because I have a huge hippie inside of me but it was the most famous intersection of the 60's and I love hearing stories about that time.
Did you happen to see or go into the Grateful Dead House on Ashbury St? I totally want to check it out.
I once read an excerpt from a book written by a Doctor who started up one of the free clinics right there, and he had some really interesting stories to tell. People coming in with perma trip, and all kinds of weird substance abuse issues.
Anyhow, just wanted to say that I think it's really cool you know about it and that you went to see it!

Re: ***Otterama***
I am seriously shocked because I thought EVERYONE knew about it!!
We didn't really get to see that area this time, but I plan on taking a weekend there to really explore. I loved San Fransisco (well, not the parking).
Also, that Kyle guy? That's my ex, and I totally want to be like "Kyle, it's things like this that might have been why we aren't together anymore"...but that'd be rude
What did I ever see in him? :::hides in embarrassment:::
yeah, it never ceases to amaze me how many things "before our time" that people either choose to ignore or don't care enough to read/learn about. I guess this wasn't really something taught in the history classes, but for music lovers and/or those fascinated 60's culture, this is must-know information!
The 60's were such a pivotal point in our country, with regard to culture, international affairs, and war protests that for me it's hard to just pretend it was just like any other decade. I still find it fascinating to hear stories from the 60's anytime I talk to someone old enough and willing to share what they were going thru during that time.
I agree Erin. I've taken 3 classes on the 60s (all by the same professor..so there's that) and for some strange reason, he didn't touch on anything counter culture until I brought it up for a possible research topic and people in that class were like "huh..what's that?" and I got up and showed them the colorful pictures of the music posters, the introduction of LSD (from our government) and how music changed significantly in the 60s (and I'll say it..Thanks to the Beatles).
It irritates me when people are ignorant about historical facts..especially when it's something well known.
Exactly! It really is, IMO, the turning point for all American culture. The fact that so many people don't know anything about it really bugs me. People have the attitude that it doesn't have to do with them, but it does!
:::puts some flowers in her hair and takes some LCD so I can really get what the music is saying, man:::
The colors...I can taste the colors man.
:::passes the LCD::: They're beautiful, man, just beautiful.
*Skips into post*
My FIL lived in (at?) Haight Ashbury. He smoked up with Jerry Garcia.

Well, this just raises your awesomesauce level to a Haight I can't reach.
(Please tell me someone gets my little joke....)
No, no...we got it...
