Contact List for trip?

Do you have a emergency type list you keep with you when going on international trips?  Something like hotel, US Embassy, etc?

Would you recommend taking one, just in case?

Re: Contact List for trip?

  • You can register your trip with the embassy.  So if for example you were on that ship that sunk over the weekend that would know to go and look for you.

I am registered as an American who lives in London.  I usually register my foreign travel.  I would have your sister do this for sure.

You will need your hotel/ your sister's address info for immigration.  You will get a form on the plane to fill out.

FYI When my dad went through immigration when he came to visit me he got the 3rd degree about MY visa when he said he was visiting his daughter.  He didn't know all the details.  He said I was married and working, they asked more questions.  So you might want to keep it simple and say you are on a holiday.

Conversely when my ILs came into the US for our wedding they said they were coming for their son's wedding and they were asked all sorts of follow up questions.

I would scan/copy  your passport, IDs, and CC, leave copies at home, take scans with you in case anything is lost.

I wouldn't bring the embassy number per say it's pretty easy to get.

999 is the emergency number in the UK.

  • Depends on where you are going I guess.  For all-inclusive trips, I generally don't.

For adventure/do-it-yourself trips, I usually have a Lonely Planet and that info is already in there.  We always make a copy of our passport.  We went to Egypt before the Arab Spring started, and we had planned on going to less touristy areas so I also made sure I had not only our embassy info but also local contacts of friends.

I do give our planned itinerary and copy of passport to friends and family at home just in case.
