Customs form for international travel?

I am going to Mexico for a work trip and in my documents I have some conflicting information. One letter says I need to go to my local government office and fill out a customers declaration form before I leave and in another spot it says I will get this form on the airplane on the way to Mexico. Does anyone know when I would typically get this form? The one that declares my camera and any other valuables I am bringing into Mexico.

Re: Customs form for international travel?

  • You get immigration/customs forms on the plane.
  • They're typically handed out on the plane. You'll fill one out for entering Mexico - for their customs officers and another when you enter the US for US customs. Not sure how much stuff you're taking in, but unless it's crazy valuable you don't typically have to declare it.

  • You get it on the plane.  Just be sure to bring a pen with you!!

  • You are talking 2 different forms. For declaring that your items were purchased before you take them out of the US so you can bring them back in without any issues is done through the customs office in the US.

When you get back in the US there is a form handed to you at the ticket counter or on the plane asking you to declare all the purchases you made in the foreign country. I declared my camera back in the 1970's/80's but not recently. I do not believe there is a big black market in them especially with travel to Mexico. For Japan it might be an issue but I have never had any problem taking my electronis to Europe and Japan.
