Like I said in most of my posts, I'm usually unmotivated when I get off of work/school to clean the damn house.
What do you do to stay motivated?
Do you have a routine?

I'm trying to designate a specific weekend day to do all my heavy cleaning, but I'm curious as to what kind of maintenance cleaning do you do and how to you spread them out throughout the week.
Dirt and clutter makes me anxious, so I'll be panicky until I know things are cleaned to my liking.
Also, I rent from the company I work for so if they ever needed to drop by my house for a maintenance call or something I'd be mortified if my house wasn't clean.
I mostly clean every day. Just pick stuff up here, vacuum here and there. Our house is mostly clean since we're very rarely here. I do the dishes almost every other day, laundry on the weekends (H's uniform being the most important thing to wash). We pick up the dishes left behind in the living room at night and put everything up so Lillie doesn't eat it (she's gotten so much better though).
If we deep clean, H and I blast some music, and divide and conquer. I'm lucky I married a man who HATES being dirty
Washing the dishes/cleaning the kitchen, making the bed, laundry, trash (as needed), litterbox cleaning, and just general tidying up of things that get cluttered/out of their proper places.

I am generally unmotivated like you, and would wait until I can physically see that it's dirty. Wouldn't normally dust until I see that it's built up, whereas the H would just do it a little here and there on a regular basis during idle time.
He doesn't like a dirty home but his parents are very clean, so he is just accustomed to it. I am trying to find a good routine as well. I have considered a chore chart, I just feel silly to admit that it's more for me and not for him.
When I'm not feeling motivated, I just set a timer for 30 minutes and force myself to get started. Usually after the timer is done, I just keep going.
I've also adopted the thinking that there is no reason to just leave something out. If I take something out, I put it back when I'm finished. Just picking up after myself saves a ton of time.
Instead of having one day where I bust my butt doing everything, I pick one room a day...for instance, the kitchen on Monday, living room on Wednesday, etc.
H is clean because he's parents weren't very tidy growing up, whereas I feel I'm less tidy because my parents were so strict with cleaning.
I do think a chore chart would be great, but I don't know how well I'd follow it. I need to do something because it's not fair to H and he does do a whole lot for me. I am working on it, so that has to be a plus right?
Music. I have to listen to music while I clean, or I get so distracted. I just find it easier to sing along while I wash/dust/straighten and all that.
That and I make a to-do list of the things that have to get done, because I LOVE scratching off items and feeling accomplished!
hah, my parents were quite messy, to the point they would get mad at me if I brought home someone new without any notice.
I hear ya, my H ends up doing most of it b/c he just gets fed up with stuff not being done and jumps in to do it. He'll huff a little bit about it AFTER, saying I need to just pitch in more, but he doesn't really ask me to do things first and I am not a mind reader. I am good with vacuuming b/c of the dogs, and I take the trash out when it's full, and little things like that, but deep cleaning is my problem.
It's definitely a good thing we both are willing to work on it. I just wish the H would let me pay for maid service and save us all the headache, but he's got issues with "strangers" being up in our house, especially if we aren't there when they do the cleaning.
Oh!! I love you!
I told H as soon I finish school and I'm in a career that would afford me to use a maid service it's a done deal.

When I'm able - I clean on a schedule.
Otherwise I just have to invite someone over to make sure the house gets cleaned before they get here.
One thing that keeps me motivated is getting cleaning tools that are quick and easy and don't piss me off.
We bought a Dyson...It was expensive but so worth it because it works great and it's light enough for my wimpy arms to carry upstairs. Its suction is awesome too so I'm disgusted and amazed by how much junk it picks up. I also got a little Shark hand-vac to clean small areas.
I mostly scrub things with baking soda and vinegar now rather than bleach and chemicals. The scent doesn't give me a headache or gag me and it just works better.
It might sound dumb, but things like this help me not dread getting them out because they're easier to handle!
As for organization and picking things up around the home, we try to just do it as we go instead of letting it build up.
I don't have a routine though since I'm home most of the time. Sometimes I'm still lazy and let things go.
