Talk to me about undershirts. My mom has brought something to my attention and I was wondering if I am the only one.
The only time that I put Charlie in an undershirt is when he is wearing a button up dressy shirt or a sweater/sweatshirt. I thought that since most of his shirts now are long sleeved that are designed to look like he has a shirt on underneath that it would be silly to put another shirt under. Now, if he is going out to play in the snow I would totally bundle him up, but I am talking about normal daycare clothing.
My mom said the fact that I don't put an undershirt under Charlie's t-shirts is weird. She said that he should be wearing an undershirt under all shirts and pajamas. She equated lack of undershirt to an adult not wearing underwear.
Am I the only one who doesn't put my kid in an undershirt? Are other parents secretly laughing at me???
Re: BWLO (specifically boys)- undershirts?
never heard of that or would have thought that. I rarely see men (well at least DH and my dad did) wearing undershirts constantly. Usually with dress up shirts.
Not like we put undershirts on girls, so why would for boys?

Z does not wear undershirts daily, like you he only does if his outfit "requires" one. . . and then, that is purely for style not warmth/hygine.

However, I did read that you should dress your child in one layer more than you would dress yourself for the weather/temp... we're lucky Z puts a coat on... we don't follow that rule either.
Let your boy be free.
Kodi wears a white undershirt under all of his clothes and pjs in the cold months, so like 9 months a year. And he always wore a onesie under his clothes when he was younger. I guess I do it more as a layer of warmth. We've always lived in a cold climate and a cool house. Kodi is actually really attached to his white shirts and rarely wants to take them off to put on a clean one. He'll wear the same one for 2-3 days before I make him change.
I don't think it's weird at all to not wear one, I just do it for warmth. I'm often cold so I assume he's cold too.

Yup, under all outfits. We did this some when Charlie was little, but he was born in June so it was pretty dang warm for awhile, and by the time it was winter we never really did it.
She says that an outfit like this would call for an undershirt...
In this weather (winter), we put an undershirt (white onesie) under almost all of Nora's clothes. Sometimes, if she's wearing an outfit that has a onesie that snaps between the legs, we won't do an undershirt if it's like 40+ degrees, but otherwise, she wears one.
Our biggest reason for putting an undershirt on is that when we pick her up and/or carry her, a lot of times her jacket and shirt will ride up, exposing her belly and back (even if only for a few seconds) to the cold. So, we put the undershirt/onesie on to keep her skin covered up no matter what, and to provide extra warmth.
I know I'm generally a "cold" person, but if I was wearing just a single layer cotton long-sleeve shirt all day, I would be freezing, so I assume the same for her.
We never put an undershirt under her jammies. She wears fleece footie ones and we have a space heater (thermostat controlled) in her room, so I don't think she needs it.

This is pretty much exactly our experience/routine with Mads. We don't bother when it's warmer out, and on the weekends when I know we won't be spending much time outside, I tend to skip the onesie, but as long as it's not raining (or snowing really heavily) she's outside playing every day at daycare, so I want to make sure she has the extra layer on & to cover any exposed belly/back now that it's freezing out.
I never did the extra onsie under outfits. Alex was always hot and I never think about it. I guess I should for Cori since it's cold, but I still don't, just wrap her in a blanket.
H wears an undershirt all the time, under t-shirts, long sleeve, dress shirts, anything. I think it's odd, but he also irons his t-shirts, so he's really odd to me.
LO wears an undershirt under all his clothes. In the summer we switch to tank top undershirts ( had to stop calling them wife beaters). I did it all the time in the winter but MIL brought it up to me that he didn't have one on one summer and so I started using the tanks.
I remember having to wear an undershirt or tank top until I started wearing a bra so I just went with it. My mom was adamant about it so I just figured everyone ( boys and girls) did it for warmth and health reasons.
My boring blog
I think it's old school. My Mom can't believe we don't put something under Jane's fleece footed sleepers. She's plenty warm, if she was cold, I'd put something else on her.
In the winter I often have her in a shirt and a sweater or sweatshirt, instead of just a shirt, but I don't consider that an "undershirt".
I really only think of "onesies" as undershirts and they don't make them in her size and the thought of trying to wrestle her into one even if they did makes me laugh.
