Megabus ?

Have any of you ever tried Megabus?  We are planning a trip to DC in March.  Originally, we were going to just drive up to DC, but I was playing around today and saw that Megabus has $1 fares to DC from our city.  I'm curious if any one has actually tried them out.  Thanks for your help!

Re: Megabus ?

  • Yep, I've used it several times to go to Chicago. The buses are clean and usually not that crowded. Sometimes they run late, but it's never been an issue for me.

In my area, there's no great place to park to hop on the bus, but such is not the case in other areas.

  • I've taken it; but only short distance (about 90mi from MKE to Chi).  How long is your ride?  It's fairly comfortable, has WIFI and a restroom.  I'd consider it.
  • I used it from Chicago to Columbus and there was a boy scout troop on my bus. They sang and did not quiet down the entire night (yup, bus left at midnight or so).

    Never. Again.

    Don't blame you. Yuck!
  • Every one that I've ever seen in operation on the road, the driver is acting like a total fool idiot.  Speeding, overly aggressive driving, you name it.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • We have considered using it to get to NYC for a weekend, but the hours it runs from our town are super random, so we would basically get to NYC at like 1 am on a Saturday and have to leave at 3 am Sunday.  I would check the hours first...also sometimes it's nice to have a car (esp depending on what you want to do in DC...although in DC the metro is pretty much all you need).

  • I've ridden it for the 2 hour ride from Milwaukee to Chicago. It's fine, but I probably wouldn't go longer distances on any bus, Mega, or Greyhound.
  • Only done the CHI to MKE route and liked it. I either do that or Amtrak. Wouldn't do Greyhound - their buses are crowded and kinda awful. I think what is nice about Megabus is that the buses are newer, cleaner, not as crowded and they don't stop all over the place so you get where you are going faster.
  • I've done it and find it very reasonable and reliant. I've used them from NYC to DC, Boston, and Philly. I've never had a problem.

The $1 fares don't always last long though, so if you see it, get it. Worse comes to worse if you don't use them, you're out a few bucks.
