What's the Cape like in early Sept? I know it's cold early in the season (end May/early June) but what about the end of the Summer? We're thinking of doing a rental up there in the very start of 'off season' - after kiddos are back in school. Is the weather still good? Is stuff still open?

OK, cool. I figured the weather would be good and while I'm OK with the crowds being gone, I didn't want everything to be boarded up and closed. We'd go right after Labor Day probably. I've been to Narragansett (RI) many times in Sept and it's always nice. As far as the Cape, my family rented a place in Harwichport a few summers ago and we really liked it. Jim and I are thinking of getting a place for us and Jane and maybe my Mom (and any siblings that want in).
Can I be an honorary sibling? lol
Haha - Yes! Your boys would balance the boy/girl ratio out for Jim, lol.
ETA: We have to start looking at a date for an OC playdate. It took us long enough the first time. Better to plan something for when the weather gets better? or for now since we're all cooped up inside anyway?
Weather gets better = April-ish. I don't want to wait that long! So let's plan something sooner, definitely.
