Well...

Laundry full of bleach is on right now (not actually full of bleach, just the appropriate amount) and I'm hanging out with Mary, I also have my electric blanket.

What are you ladies up to tonight?

  • Meijer has been out of organic peanut butter for weeks now and I'm having withdrawals.  I just emailed a complaint.

Yeah...that's about all I've done tonight.  lol

This might sound a bit weird, but have you ever considered looking through amazon for certain must have foods? I'm just thinking about this since you have specific foods you have to stick to.

No, I actually haven't but DH mentioned this yesterday too.  That's a good idea for something like peanut butter that won't go bad fast!

For a while Meijer was doing awesome -- they have a lot of organic foods.  But lately they've been out of several things including apples, bread (the only brand of bread I can eat unless I make my own), and peanut butter.  It's very strange.  Of course, I can always eat other things but those are 3 of my favorites and I already feel so limited sometimes.

Don't you have a plethora of food allergies? I feel so bad because I'm lactose intolerant and that limits a huge amount of what I can eat (because I'm sensitive enough that the lactase enzyme doesn't work too well for me) but I think I remember you saying there's a whole list of stuff that you can't have... Bummer... I hate when you can't find the alternative you want! My almond milk was gone yesterday and I was not a happy camper.

Anywho, I spent a long time on the phone with my best friend from Houston, and my mom got home and told me to find anything to eat in the kitchen. So I'm putting off making dinner cause I'm not sure what to eat, and considering watching some sort of show now that I'm linked up the internet. Not a whole lot of exciting going on here. My weatherbug told me I unfortunately have a snowstorm to look forward to on Wednesday and considering I now drive 47.5 miles to work, I am NOT excited. D:

Yes, unfortunately.  The main one I'm allergic to is soy which sucks because soybean oil is in everything, including fresh produce (vegetable wax) sometimes.  I'm also allergic to 3 types of tree nuts and onions now too, but those are easier to avoid.  I developed them all out of the blue in 2010.  I haven't eaten a single bite of food from a restaurant since October '10...  I think that might set a world record for an American! lol.

Sometimes I do ok with accepting it, but other times it's frustrating because I get sick often from cross-contamination and can't indulge like a normal person.  I'm sick a lot because of improper labeling and I've recently lost a bunch of weight which kind of worries me.

Sorry for the whining.  Like I said, sometimes I'm ok but I've been having a rough time lately!

When did you become lactose intolerant?  I think that would be really hard too.  I LOVE cheese.

  • KDuv, that's seriously really sucky. I could NOT do that. I would starve!

As for me, I've been laying low tonight. My back is really hurting. My meds are not helping too much. i have a Dr. appt on Thursday. Hopefully something can be done.

I went to my yoga/pilates class tonight, ate dinner, talked to the husband who's out of town for about an hour and now I'm lyng in bed w/the doggies (shhhhhh! Don't tell H!)

  • Ugh, soy IS in a lot... That's hard, I'm sorry you have so many you have to worry about and watch for. And crazy that they just came and hit you out of nowhere!

I pretty much lived with a constant belly ache growing up, but on my 11th birthday we had a pizza party, and ice cream and they almost had to take me to the ER I was so sick. My stomach cramped up so bad I couldn't get out of fetal position and I just cried hysterically for hours. My doctor suggested cutting lactose out of my diet and I finally felt like a normal human being once I did. I keep around rice cheese (slices, shredded and parmesan flavor), almond milk, dairy free margarine, so cooking at my house is easy. It's really hard though when we have work parties and people bring queso dip, pizza, chocolate milk for doughnuts, etc. So I get why you feel whiny, go ahead and complain! Mine is easier to work around than your allergies, and I still get sad. There are so many things people don't think about even having dairy in them. It sucks to have to cut huge groups of food out of your diet.

  • Omg...That's terrible, Lex!  It's a shame it took so long to figure out what was causing your pain.  I can't imagine going years without knowing why I was feeling crappy.  I'm glad you know what to avoid now.

I only had to deal with mine for about 4-6 months before we figured out what was wrong.  I had a bunch of tests run and exploratory abdominal surgery, and they kept saying I had IBS with anxiety but I just knew it wasn't that because it was excruciating at times, my organs were swollen, I had muscle and joint pain all over, acne, hives, migraines, nausea, chest pain, short of breath, etc.  I felt like my doctors didn't take me seriously.  That's when I had an allergy test done on a whim and figured it out.

I've spent a lot of time reading and doing research on this subject, and it seems that food allergies and intolerances are becoming way more common and much more serious.  They don't know the exact reason why but there are theories that it's because of overexposure to certain harmful ingredients in our food that aren't regulated like they should be.  It's really a scary thought.

I agree that's the hardest part!  People always want to try to help, but I'd rather they not (MIL tries push food on me ALL THE TIME).  Most people dont understand how many names some ingredients hide under and the possibility of cross-contamination.  Even something as simple and basic as an apple can cause a reaction in me because groceries spray them with vegetable wax, which contains soy.
