Productive Doc Appt

Well, I got to ask her all of my questions about...everything! I really love my GP, especially since she does paps so I don't have to go to a separate OBGYN.  So, she switched my anti-depressant to something that just came out, and she drew blood to test for a thyroid problem.  She agreed with me that quitting smoking, getting married, and being in my 30's could lead to weight gain, but 30 lbs in a year was a bit excessive.  I honestly don't think it has anything to do with my thyroid, but it's worth testing.  Also, she said Paragaurd was a really good option for me, since it has no hormones and lasts for a really long time.  Have I mentioned I love my GP?  So, she referred me to a OB she trusts to insert it.  Yay!  All of my questions in one appt.  Love it!

  • I love competent medical professionals!
  • Yay!  I feel the same about my OB. She's awesome.

  • Weight gain after quitting smoking is unfortunately inevitable. Smoking increases your metabolism, so when you quit, your metabolism slows down, but often diet remains as in. Augh, and that whole aging thing too. Yeah, equals an even slower metabolism!. I'm glad you went to the doctor though and got blood drawn.

And YAY for IUD. It will be your BFF.

  • That's great! FYI I have the Paragard and I love it, so if you have any questions, let me know.

Unfortunately the metabolism issue can creep up around your 30s. HOWEVER, there are lots of things you can do to keep it kicking (eating breakfast- most importantly!-, smaller meals throughout the day instead of big ones, strength training, etc). For what it's worth, though, even though I noticed a slight change in my metabolism when I got into my 30s, I still have maintained the same size/shape/weight from my wedding when I was 25, without working too hard. It just took some slight dietary/exercise changes.

I'm glad you had such a good, productive md appt!

  • Sounds like you really do have a great doctor.  Yeah, being in your 30's does make your body freak out.
