Business Travel to Dubai

Hi there:

I'm traveling to Dubai next month for a tradeshow.  I've been trying to read up on Dubai, but any suggestion and/or resources would be very much appreciated.

I'm specifically curious about dress and/or customs I should be aware of (maybe things that aren't always specified in travel guides).  I won't have much time to do site seeing but if there's an absolute top suggestion, I'd love it.

Thanks!

Re: Business Travel to Dubai

  • Hello! This thread about dress in the UAE was just posted on IN, and could be useful.

As it states, I'd dress conservatively in public - no spaghetti strap tanks, sundresses, short skirts/shorts, etc. I live in Doha, Qatar and have been to Dubai numerous times, and I tend to wear jeans with a short sleeve shirt/sweater, and flip flops. Bring a sweater - it's cold inside!

Do you know what part of Dubai you'll be staying in? Or which hotel?

Friday boozy brunches are super common and popular, if you're there on a Friday, and can swing it, you should check one out. My fave is definitely at Spectrum on One at the Fairmont Hotel.

As for things to do, there's always the Burj Khalifa. You'll want to purchase tickets in advance, other wise it sells out fast! The entrance to the Burj is in Dubai Mall, so you could wonder around there if you had time.

There's always the Souq Madinat, which is a building made to look like an old souq, but has current shops and food (and Trader Vic's)! There is also Jumeirah Beach Residence, and The Walk has lots of shops and restaurants and is next to the beach.

And of course there are numerous malls - Dubai Mall, Mall of Emirates - which has Ski Dubai and Shake Shack!

We're actually going back next month, let me know if you have questions ;-)
