Okay. so we have had a fun run of it the last 2 months. My poor Gwen hasn't had a whole lot of time without being sick. She got a cold at 3.5 weeks, which went away, slowly, went to ER for her virus (because she ran a fever- so had full sepsis workup) and got another cold after Xmas (Kellen also) and a week and a half ago Kellen got croup (still fighting) and now I am worried she will get it (even though she still has a cold, so not sure if that manifests into croup, or if it will stay a cold). Kellen got the stomach bug on Thursday and threw up 3 times, and Gwen got on Sat and threw everything up for hours. She then dry heaved at night, but started eating again yesterday.
So, unfortunately, since our house is a whooping 800 sq ft (including unfinished basement) I can't run off to the East Wing with her. I did try to barricade us in my bedroom this weekend, but that really doesn't work. I have Lysoled things so much, that I broke my phone and a remote control from 'extensive spraying'. ![]()
I am finding it impossible to keep the kids from giving things back and forth to each other! So frustrating! I wish our daycare had fewer kids, because it seems that this is all coming from there!
So, to my help ?. Gwen started out being a great BF'er. She then got sick at 3.5 weeks, and went down a bit. She started having mucusy, loose stools, but I have asked the doctors (even bringing in pics on my phone, and yes, scaring a new intern) to make sure they were normal. Sounds like they are. She has never taken a binkie (tried 4 kinds) even in the hospital, and she wouldn't take a bottle (tried 6 kinds).when we tried. Daycare has gotten her to eat anywhere from 4-8 oz a day (about 9 hours!) and I BF at home the rest (I think about 8 oz, but she may be getting more). She was born 8 lbs, 3 oz and at 2 month appt was 13 lbs 1 oz. She is in the 94th percentile for height and weight. Which is great. But, she started not eating much again (could be the stomach bug) and yes, I am so worried, that I got a baby scale from a friend and weighed her. She is only 13 lbs, 3 oz. That is only 2 oz in 2 weeks. I heard they were suppose to gain that in 2 days!
Has anyone every experience this? Kellen was such a voracious eater, that I am not sure what to make of this. I wait 3, 4 hours, and she doesn't even look hungry. She is so happy, but will push away the bottle with her tongue and get fussy if I keep trying.
Also, any thoughts on the keeping kids healthy? Has anyone else's kid been so sick in the first 3 months? I feel awful, because I was basically isolating Kellen from me, since I take care of Gwen and DH takes care of Kellen, until my DH said, 'you are ignoring our son'. How awful! So, since then, I have been trying to incorporate him more, with just washing my hands like a fiend. How bad of a mommy am I????
Re: HELP! long- sorry :)
Oh- and thank you to those who answered my other post- I do live by Mercy Franklin and will try to pick up a nasal bulb there!
Also, one thing I forgot to add. We have Gwen on Prevacid now for about a week (showing signs of silent reflux like Kellen did) and that doesn't seem to have an effect yet.
Too cute- cuz I feel the same about Gwen- is it 2nd child syndrome???
Thanks for the response. I am much less neurotic once they turn 1! It just feels like I should be protecting my baby better than this. I know it isn't too serious, but colds and flus this young stinks!
Anyone else ready for spring????
Oh Tash! you're a wonderful mommy! these things happen, sometimes you just get delt a crappy hand! They'll get better.
I've heard of people washing their face in peroxide, and that keeping them healthy. NOT sure if you can do that to babies/small children. I'd look up natural health remidies, so see if there is anything out there that'll help keep the two kiddos healthy.
Also, is there any possible way, you can kick H & the kids out so you can just scrub everything down with bleach? Yes, I said bleach. I swear by that stuff.
And can you take a probiotic? since you're BFing Gwen, you can pass on the good stuff to her.
SO sorry you guys have had such a rough go of it these past few months... Yuck. I'm sure it's exhausting. But I sure hope you know that you are a TERRIFIC mama! You are doing everything you can to provide a healthy & happy home... Those viruses just have a way of getting through it all. I suppose it's best to adopt the "This, too, shall pass" mantra for now
Oh -- and I must recommend the Nosefrida. http://www.littlepaddedseats.com/category_218/NoseFrida.htm
It is truly awesome. I've found it to be so much more effective than the bulb syringe, even. I just wish we'd gotten it sooner.
Sending positive -- and health-filled -- thoughts your way!
