You said your kids don't eat much lately--- is that amount wise or picky eaters?

If picky eaters.... I wonder if we could all brainstorm some ideas for you to make for dinner.
Or even dinners that you can use leftovers the next night in a different fashion!

Re: bronco

  • Kaitlyn is picky, a product of how we did food w/her, which I could kick myself now, it's just like I was as a kid.  She won't try anything, so it's hard.  Joshua use to eat me out of house & home, now he's toned it down, not sure if he's teething or what, sometimes he hardly eats much at meals, which I understand, he's only 1.

So when Dave's not home, it really is like cooking for 1, I don't want to cook a huge casserole & have leftovers for days on end (I do like leftovers, just not 3 days in a row, unless it was pizza, LOL).

::Butting in::  Could you elaborate on the bold portion??? As we get closer to starting solids with James I'm curious to know what does/doesn't work with the kiddos.

I would try anything as a kid (and still do) but H used to be a picky eater - although I've broke him of that and now he tries anything. Smile

  • Booger- this what we did/do:
For T (now 4) we did a lot of puree to start and were very nervous about solids. We were also unlucky with allergies and nervous about them so we struggled some. He's picky but he'll try things- we've talked it up about how great it is to try things and find out if you like something.  We don't do the 'eat your worms' sort of thing- you know how some kids would 'eat that up' when you make something 'fun'- not my kid!
For B (now 19 months) we offered very little puree and did LOTS of solids, well cooked and small bits. He fed himself almost always. He eats a ton, frequently, and tries something new almost daily! He's an awesome eater.  He even eats hummus by the spoonful. We followed much of the 'baby led weaning' technique.

Also, a suggested site to use is  http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/

Sorry- I dont know how to make things clicky anymore :(

  • I gave Kaitlyn jarred food more/longer than I did w/Joshua.  Joshua ate table foods early & we gave him what we had.  He will eat/try most things, even though the peditrician said at age 2 don't be surprised if he only eats a few things.  Kaitlyn won't try anything, she says "I don't like it", even if she's never had it.

I grew up on Spaghetti & Meatballs, my parents said if they hid food in it, I'd find it, I wish they would have tried harder & not given up, it took me into my college years & beyond before I would try a lot of things, and even now I haven't tried as much as I wish I had.  I don't want my kids to end up like me.
