Selling my rings - is this a fair price?
My engagement ring alone is worth $3500 and the wedding band was another $1000. I received an offer for $900 for the set. Should I take it, or wait to see if I can get more money?
Re: Selling my rings - is this a fair price?
Why would I want that memory hanging around?

It's a piece of jewelry. You choose what memory you want to associate to it. You could just as easily have it made into a nice necklace / pendant and think of it as part of your journey to where you are now.
For some people it's a piece of jewelry that is only associated with bad memories.theres not a chance in hell I'd keep my rings or turn them into some other piece.
THIS. I would never keep my rings. Ever. Not one diamond.
Ditto this. There's no way I'd keep that thing. I should never have accepted it in the first place! Plus I always thought of XH chucking it across the room when we were fighting one night. Luckily (or not so luckily) we wound up finding it after an extensive search!
we are going through something similiar.
my E-ring diamond was worth $2600 (according to the cert from the whole sale where we bought it) . it isn't GIA certified, but it is 1 ct, G color, SI2...the cut isn't perfect, the depth and table proportions aren't perfect either, which is why we didn't get a great offer. i paid $600 for my wedding band (the same one now retails for 900). i could pay $100 and get it GIA certified, but we have another option we are persuing. Grnated my appraisal said my E-ring was worth 8K...but we paid 2900 for the ring and setting.
when BF bought the diamond for my new ring we sent my old set in to MDC diamonds to see what they would offer us for both, they said 1K. I said send them back. I can upgrade or get $2600 towards wedding bands/jewelry from where XH and I bought my old E-ring, so we are going to do that. I am taking my wedding band to see what they will offer for it, and we are going to ask them what they would offer to buy the E ring back vs trade.
if you have the GIA certs, i'd try to get more, i think $900 is a BS offer. i'd try to sell it myself before i took that.
it sucks because you sell it back for a pittance and they go and mark it back up and make a profit.
