Valentine's Day

What are y'all's plans for Valentine's Day? We were thinking of going to a Mavs game on the 11th, but its just so expensive. $110 a peice for crappy seats! And I think we may have waited to late, and all the "nice Valentine's Day, dress up" kind of resturants will probably be all booked. Suggestions?

Re: Valentine's Day

  • We don't "do" Valentine's Day. Nothing against it... we just never have. We'll probably get cards for the kiddos, and maybe we'll watch a romantical movie that night or something, but that'd be about the extent of it.

  • I'm going to a friend's wedding the weekend before and we decided to get a hotel room for the weekend.  We may go out to dinner but I don't want to go while they're running their special menus (I'd rather order off the regular menu if it's my first time at a restaurant).  On the 14th, I have my last set of basketball games for the season.  So romantic you'll be jealous!!!!
  • We haven't really talked about anything. I think we will do something in FW since we always find an excuse to celebrate. My bigger thing will be what I get him for Valentine's day.
  • DH is being weird and has become pro Valentine's Day so I'm not sure what he has in mind.  I would prefer to stay home and make a meal and have some chocolate fondue with fruits and rice krispy treats.

    That's us too

  • DH's bday is Valentine's day so normally we do something to celebrate his bday instead.  It's a lot easier that way because most of the places he likes to go aren't the typical spots for romance.  This year is his 35 so I wanted to do something bigger for him so I am thinking of doing something that weekend but we'll have to see how I feel.  We also have SD Valentine's Day and it's ballet night so I'm hoping just to not have to cook for the night.  (oh and I'm 6 days from delivery so probably won't be up for much)

I can't believe that you're so close!!!!  February seemed so far away back when you first announced you were pregnant.  I am looking forward to tomorrow though so that I can hear about Caroline's room.

  • I'm weird, but I love Valentine's!  I'm a little mushy like that I guess.  With that said, I have no idea what we will do.  The night of I'm sure we'll stay home bc the restaurants will be packed.  The following weekend we will probably go do something.  For instance, one year we went to Ripley's and last year we went to the Dallas World Aquarium then had a nice dinner.
  • I think we did something special our first V day (he recreated the first meal I ever cooked for him), but we haven't done much since then.  When I worked in the office he would normally send me flowers which I thought was so sweet.
  • We dont normally do a ton, I usually get flowers and he usually gets a decorated peanut butter coookie, and we might do dinner over the weekend but thats about it.  This year we have our winter party for my work on the 10th and a wedding on the 11th so I think that will be plenty.
  • We used to go out, but I'm not usually a fan of the pre-fix menu's.  It is hard getting reservations if you don't plan way in advance, and the restaurants are always SO crowded.

Last year, we planned a really nice steak dinner at home.  It was lots of fun cooking together.  The weather was gorgeous, so we got to eat out on the deck, just really nice, relaxing, and togetherness.  I already requested that we do it again this year!  :)

  • I usually get flowers, and he usually gets a card and a little present.  We might go to dinner, but nowhere fancy - just Olive Garden or something like that.  But, this year I'm just hoping he's in town!
  • We'll go out to dinner on the 11th probably and we just give each other cards.  Nothing fancy.  We're not real big on it.
  • I think we are just going to have a face-time dinner date on our i-pads. :)
  • We don't really "do" V-Day, either.  Mostly we stay in and cook dinner together and then watch something.  One year we went to see Swan Lake with the TBT, and that was fun.

Food Network runs a really nice Valentine's dinner on their website that I've tweaked and cooked a few years in a row.  Not just on V-Day, but the first year I cooked it that's what it was for.  It's delicious.

This year we're going to a wedding.  =)

  • Thanks!  My sister did something similar for me once for my birthday and I loved it--it was a Rachel Ray meal of steak with blue cheese and a side of pasta and a salad. I think this sounds like a great idea.

  • In college I was definitely not ambitious enough to try the roasted rack of lamb, so I subbed some seared scallops with linguine and it was delicious.  I can't wait to get a patio to do some grilling!
