New Orleans for Mardi Gras.. am I too late?

This was just decided on this weekend, but I see flights are ~740 pp just for coming in Monday afternoon and leaving Wednesday evening.

Is there a trick to getting it cheaper?  (as in, start the trip on Sunday or something) I obviously realize I should have booked before now, but I didn't.

Also, any hotel recs?

My friends and I have considered driving from Jersey, but it seems the price in fuel would be the price of the tickets.

  • Yeah.  Mardi Gras books up early.

Also, realize that MG consists of more than one day.  Parades run for the two weekends proceeding MG, so you might want to figure out what you are going for.  Wildness?  The parade experience?  Meeting cool people and good music?

The second link will show you the parade schedule.   You won't want to travel outside the city, so avoid any parade NOT marked Uptown.

Depending on what you are looking for in the experience, I might try for Jazz Fest.  Better weather, incredible music and fabulous food.  No beads or boobs.
