Can someone explain Mod Podge to me

Please!! I have a can of the matte kind that I used ONCE for a project (it was recommended to me) probably 2 years ago. I just don't know what all I can do with the stuff Big Smile

One thing that I am thinking of using it for is a bow holder: I have a piece of wood that I painted. I cut out letters and shapes with my Cricut. Can I glue those on it with MP? And I want to like 'seal' it once I am finished. Could I paint a layer of the glossy MP on top of everything? Or what would be the best thing to use for that??? (I will do PIP when I am finished with it)

Thanks [so much] in advance!

Re: Can someone explain Mod Podge to me

  • The spray can of Mod Podge is very different from the Mod Podge in a bottle.

The spray cans of Mod Podge (either matte or gloss) act only as a sealant, not as an adhesive. So, what you have will not work as glue, but it will work to seal it.

Bottles of mod podge act as a glue and a sealant, and you''ll need to use a thin, even coat to get the best results. It will dry clear, but the thicker the coat the longer it takes to dry.

When I make coasters, I use mod podge in a bottle to apply the paper and then on top as a sealant. I then let it dry super good, and apply a coat of the spray mod podge, because mod podge in a bottle can be kinda sticky.

I hope this helps! I tried to upload a picture from flickr, but I'm not having any luck.

  • Check out this website...it's all about Mod Podge. There's a chart with which formula you use (matte, glossy, fabric, etc) for what materials you're using.

Yes, that's exactly how you'd adhere the letters to the wood for the bow holder. Have fun!

  • Thanks ladies! I just pinned that website SmileYes
