If you've seen the new "Dragon Tattoo" movie...
Is the rape scene truly awful? I have a really hard time with sexual violence in movies, I had to fast forward through "Boys Don't Cry".
I was able to get through the book, but haven't read the other 2 books because I'm scared of the violence.
A friend asked me if I wanted to go watch it on Monday...and I'm not sure of I can?
Thanks
Re: If you've seen the new "Dragon Tattoo" movie...
I thought it was pretty graphic. My H had to turn his head, but I watched it.
Bummer.
I might still go watch it, but I'll probably walk outside during that scene. IIRC, the guy goes to Lisbeth's apartment and that's where it happens right? I can't remember what happens right before. Ideally I'd like to walk out during that 5 minutes.
She goes over to his apartment because she tells him she needs more money.
I thought the scene was horrific but knowing that it was coming made it tolerable for me. Also, the movie doesn't dwell on it. It happens and then it is over. Lisbeth also gets her revenge on him!
Side note: I just finished the 2nd book and it was not sexually violent like the first book. I thought it was 10x better than the first book actually. It wasn't as graphic and it was much more suspenseful.
Thank you.
I also thought this exact same thing, and kept telling my husband 'Oh, just wait, he's gonna get it.'
It's the second sexual encounter between her and the guardian. The first is in his office, and is still graphic for what it is (a BJ). The second one takes place in his apartment. You'll know it's coming.
I personally thought the book was way worse. I had psyched myself up to be completely horrified and need to leave or something, but I found it tolerable, especially since I already knew what was going to happen.
I didnt find it much worse than most other movies with graphic scenes. Like any Saw movie is much worse, imo.
ETA I totally agree with PP about the other two books, I would definitely recommend them.
I changed my name
It's graphic but it's not completely terrible. Like a pp said, it doesn't dwell on it and the change of scene happens fairly quickly.
The movie overall is really good so I definitely think you should go watch it.

Travel Adventures.
I thought it was pretty horrific. I was in tears by the end and thought I was going to be ill. In the book I was able to skim and skip ahead, but in the theater, it would have been difficult to crawl over others and leave, so I stuck it out.
The movie truly is incredible, so if you can prepare yourself to leave for that scene, I still highly recommend seeing it.
I thought it was pretty true to what the book depicted. Even though I knew what was coming, my heart broke for her. My BF hadn't read the book, and I'd forgotten about that scene, so I forgot to prepare him for it. He was pretty shaken by it. Like others have said, you'll know when it's coming. Both scenes (the rape scene and the revenge scene) are graphic, so you might need to remove yourself twice.
I'm still in awe of Rooney Mara. She killed that role.
I agree, I felt sick and I couldn't get it out of my head for a few days after seeing the movie. I hadn't read the book though so was not at all prepared for what was coming.
I agree 100%. I expected the scene to be much worse than it was.
i was able to spot it coming and (having reserved a seat on the end of the aisle) hightailed it out of there and to the bathroom. I thought I had taken long enough but had to stand in the doorway because i could still hear her screaming.
All of this. It's pretty difficult to watch, but it's what I expected from the book, so at least I was prepared for it. It really is an excellent movie and the acting (especially by Rooney Mara) is outstanding and definitely worth seeing, so I wouldn't skip it just because of the few graphic scenes.
