Maternity Underwear?

Hi everyone

I'm a lurker coming out of hiding and I have a question for all of you moms out here.

Is maternity underwear (panties, specifially, since several items constitute "underwear") worth while or do you prefer to wear your regular ones and let them land wherever they want to - probably usually the bikini line? I'm trying to set some kind of a budget for when I will need to buy maternity clothes and want to know what is necessary and what is superfluous.

A little about me - married a year and 9 days. First marriage for both of us. Trying to have our first baby. Work downtown and live on the south side...for now. Also getting ready to sell the house and move. Thinking we would like the Easter Lake area (Carlisle Schools) if we can find something we love and can comfortably afford.

TIA!

Re: Maternity Underwear?

  • Are you talking underwear to wear throughout pregnancy or after labor? Either way, I just bought a cheap pack of granny panties and wore those since my pre-pregnancy ones gave me plumber's crack haha

I live on the SS too (I grew up on the SS also) and I love love love it! We live just off of Park Ave by Fareway. My DH actually went to Carlisle too, we're hoping to send our DD there too when she's older.

  • I wore "granny-panties" or boy-shorts my last few months. I already had these so no added cost for me.

I didn't change bras when pregnant, but when I was BFing, I did have a few nursing bras.

Wow! Small world! We also live off of Park just a few blocks from Fareway. There are some neighborhoods around there that are better than others and unfortunately we live in one of the not so nice ones.

I am actually considering buying adult diapers to wear after labor - at least for a few days until "stuff" lets up a little. Wink I may change my mind by the time that becomes an issue...I don't know. It's not fun walking around all day pulling up one's panties but there is nothing at all sexy about granny panties either. Maybe some of both?!

  • I picked up 2 multi packs from WalMart of cheap cotton briefs in a larger size. They are not sexy by any stretch of the imagination but they were comfortable and hit me at a good spot on my stomach. I ended up with a C/S and they worked with that too and never bothered my incision.

I am rather large busted and did need to buy new bras a couple times but to help when I was "in-between" sizes I picked up a couple hook and eye expander from Jo-Ann fabrics. I am very glad I did that rather than buy so many different sized bras every month as I grew!

  • Welcome to the board!

I was able to wear my regular underwear throughout pregnancy.  It went under my belly and that was comfortable for me.

I bought different ones for after, but just a cheap pack of Hanes from Target.  I needed ones that went above my c-section incision so it wouldn't rub.

  • I also wore my normal undies and never had issues. They just went under my belly and were just as comfortable as before, imo :-)

For post partum, I wore black undies just to be safe, if ya know what I mean. My husband called them granny panies, but they were comfy for the couples weeks after L&D. I just got them from VS...they just covered my bum more :-)
