Rick Steve's Italy guidebooks...

Is it better to get his Italy 2012 or get his Italian city-specific books (Rome, Florence, etc)...

Re: Rick Steve's Italy guidebooks...

  • check them and see-the city specific i find has more in depth info than the general ones however depending on what you're looking for the general all italy one may be ok for you as well.

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • We just used the Italy guidebook.  If we were spending more days in any one city, we might've gotten the city-specific ones too, but we were never in any one place more than 2-3 nights.  The whole country book went into sufficient detail for us.
  • Depends...if you are only going to two cities or less (i.e. Florence and Rome) I would probably get the city-specific guidebooks. But if you are adding on a third city/region, I would probably go with his Italy book.
  • We used the Italy book and found plenty of info for the areas we were visiting.
  • We used the Italy 2008 book when we were in Venice, Florence, and Rome in 2008.  I found it to be really useful, I never felt like it was lacking in information (and we spent 10 days in Rome)!
  • We spent two weeks in Italy (Rome, Assisi, Siena, Florence, Venice, Milan) and used the general Italy one. Worked great for the city hopping.
