Have you ever been? Did you use a tour group? What did you do?
I'm exploring ideas for a family trip this summer and I keep coming back to morocco.
Re: Morocco
We went December 2010 and loved it! We used http://www.saharaservices.info/ for a 4 day trip to the Sahara Desert, but other than that did everything on our own. (That tour group was great, btw - we saw a ton of great stuff and it was nice having a private guide rather than being on a bus. Plus, riding a camel in the Sahara Desert was a bucket list kind of thing for me.)
We flew in to Casablanca and only spent 1 night there - that was plenty for me. We did 3 days each in Marrakech and Fes and really enjoyed them both. I really liked wandering around the souks.
I'd be happy to answer any more specific questions if you have them. Enjoy your trip, whatever you decide!
My Ovulation Chart
I just went for a long weekend (6-10 Jan 2012). We stayed in Marrakesh and did day trips to Eassouria (beach town south of Casablanca-- smaller and less of a hassle than CB) and the High Atlas mountains.
For the day trips we did use a guide and driver-- Rough Tours. They were prompt and professional, I'd recommend them for a private tour.
Have fun!
I've been many times.
I never even considereda tour group. It's just not necessary. Brush up on your French, bring your common sense and sense of humour and you'll be fine.
My first trip I went to quite a few places. Marrakech, Essaouira, Rabat, Fes, Chefchaouen and Agadir. Since then, I've been to many more... but most of our time is spent at home in Essaouira.
Anyway, it's a neat place to visit. Although I wouldn't recommend summer. Spring/fall is much more pleasant. 120 degrees F is kind of a nightmare. *Very* few places have AC. Just a handful of more expensive hotels. I've only spent one summer in Morocco... and I swore I'd never do it again. I remember wandering through the medina trying to find a bank with AC to enjoy for a few minutes... I wasn't successful.
Thank goodness we were in Essaouira most of the time... it's never as hot there.
