Name love, that DH hates

Is there a name that you love, that your DH hates so much that it will never happen, even though you love it with a cherry on top?

Re: Name love, that DH hates

  • I <3 Lydia so bad, but DH hates it, says it makes him think of old ladies.

  • Olivia.

He never liked it, even when it was a contender for Natalie's name (I kept trying to call her that post-delivery and he was saying no, no, no, she's a Natalie.)

Now that his cousin has used the name, he refuses to even consider it even though they live a world away from us in Texas.

    16 read! my read shelf:
Amy's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Alistair  or Oliver- DH HATES them.  I also really like the name Gavin and DH refuses. (I think it is cute because DH's dad is Melvin, DH is Deven, and DS would be Gavin but DH hates it even more because of that..boo to him.)
  • Henry.  Le sigh.  I think its such a handsome, solid name, but alas my hubs does not agree.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...if this kiddo is a boy, we're going to have an argument on our hands.

  • Logan for boys.  We had such a hard time with girl names, I stopped thinking about them.  I asked for Brenna, Brynn and Tessa and he said no to all.
  • He's not a fan of Hazel or Iris. I wonder if he associates them with eyeballs... I just thought of that.

    For boys it's Joaquin.

    Happiest place on Earth!

  • Tucker.  DH says it is too rednecky.

  • Pretty much disagree on all names.  It's kind of a problem.  In general he says I like "old lady names" and likes "names of the popular kids when I went to school" aka top 10 names from the 80s.  Which, for the record, are names of lots of us  here and are totally fine names but they were really big 30 years ago and they are nms now for my kids (tiffany, jennifer, heather, amanda, samantha etc).  DH clearly thinks of them as the 'cool girl' names and pulls hard for them.

Has he been talking to my DH?  I've come to refer to his style as the "Full House style".  Like you said, not bad names, but nms.  And he absolutely refers to my style as "old lady names" too.  Hence why girl names became a major project for us.

  • We don't agree on any. My fave for a girl is Lauren. He hasn't veto'd it, but he doesn't like it. We'll see what happens if/when we have a girl.
  • Laney. I love it so much, but DH wants no parts of it. Lily isn't helping the situation either. She doesn't like it either and is siding with DH on this one.
Finally a Mrs as of June 7, 2008

  • I love the name Arlo for a little boy, but DH hates it.  I just got a kitten, though, and named him Arlo because I know he'd never let me use it for a kid.

The name he loves and I can't stand is Bridger.  He thinks it a tough-sounding name for a boy, but all I can think of is Bridget, which is another name I've never liked.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  • Joaquim (almost the same as Joaquin but it's Portuguese, like me!)

DH can't pronounce it so we'd never be able to use it & it makes me sad because I love it so very much.

  • For a girl, Willow.  DH says it reminds him of the movie.  I'm not sure about a boy name, we haven't discussed boy names in a few years.

  • We disagree on pretty much any other name options we have ever discuss. DH is a hard one to please and sometimes his names are a little too out there for me. Ex: He wanted to name Tessa (if she was a boy) Tyson Gunner. I like the name Tyson, but I hate, hate, hate the middle name Gunner. Any name for except for Tessa that I came up with he absolutely hated.
