Re: POLL: Your name
Eh, Allison isn't a bad name, it just reminds me of my super-heavy middle school years. Then I started sports (and weight watchers), dropped a lot of lbs, and in high school started asking all my teachers to call me Allie. I've been called that ever since (though some people, like my BFF from childhood and my grandma, still call me Allison. Now, I think of myself as an Allie.
Also, my boss's name is Allison, so I think of her when I hear that name, not me.
Same with me.... I'll take Melissa over Becky (their other choice), but I hated that there were a bunch of other Melissa's in my grade growing up.
I was Daniele Allison at birth. My parents separated not long after that I didn't have much contact with my dad's family until recently. Somewhere along the way but pretty early, I just became Allison (probably before by age 3 but definitely before kindergarten). So after getting married, I legally dropped Daniele and changed it to just Allison. My dad's family still call me Daniele and it drives me nuts.
Oh and I didn't find out that it was spelled Daniele with one L instead of the more common Danielle until I was in high school, got my first job and attempted to file a tax return under Danielle and the IRS said that there was no such person.

I think my name fits me pretty well. I hated the spelling growing up because I could never have personalized pencils, etc. that everyone else had. My parents would try to make it up to me by getting me a bicycle with my name on it, a chalkboard with my name painted on it, etc. Those are some of my most memorable gifts because my name was spelled correctly on them.
I think my first name plus my middle name fit me really well. I love them combined (and lots of people I am close to call me both names).
The other option was Lynn...I'm definitely not a Lynn. LOL.
The other option was for me to be Deborah Michelle and they were going to call me by my middle name (Michelle). So essentially, either way I was going to be a Michelle.
They had a change of heart after I was born and didn't want to call me by a middle name since they thought it might be a hassle with correcting people and such. I never thought it would be a BIG deal. I had to hang out in the hospital for a few days before they decided on a new middle name.
I don't think I would've been a Deborah...Michelle is fine. I don't know if there's another name that would've fit me better honestly. I never had a nickname until college when I picked up the nickname M-Shady (or just Shady for "short").
