Decor WDYT

I've been looking for something to cover up the enormous and heinously ugly mirror that is set into the wall behind my bed.  I found these curtains on clearance today at Target and thought they just might work...

Here's the zoomed out view (please excuse the giant lounging animal):

I'm worried about the curtain because even though everything is the same finish and the same colors, it is a lot of patterns going on (duvet is a light herringbone, shams are moroccan tile, pillow is damask-ish, side pillows are pleat textured, curtain is striped).

I will obviously iron the curtain, center it, and mount it correctly (not with packaging tape) if I keep it.

If it matters, the curtains on the window are blackout curtains in the lightest gray color.

  • I like all of the patterns together; none of them stand out too much and they all blend well, imo.

I think it should be two curtains to make it look for like a window but...can you mount them so that the curtains stick out a little farther than your bed frame.

The thing I don't like in the picture is that the curtain is about as wide as your mattress and there is something about that catches my eye (in a way I don't like). I like the look, if I were doing it myself I would try and make it so the curtains went out about ~4" from either side of the bed.

  • I can definitely hang the second curtain too, then it would be almost double as wide, and would definitely extend beyond the sides of the bed.

  • I thInk 2 will definitely look better. I don't mind all the patterns and I love the curtains(we have them in our bedroom) but I'm not sure I love the single flat panel.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • I don't mind the curtain or the mixture of patterns. I agree with law, though, that I'd mount it a few inches wider on each side. I think it'd balance with the bed better.

If you don't love the curtain, you might want to try another DIY option. Before we bought our new bed, I was looking at lots of options using old doors, mantles, trim, etc to make a headboard. You can probably find lots of ideas for something similar to cover the mirror, if you want something wood instead of fabric.

  • I agree with pp on doing 2 panels and expanding it past the bed frame :)

  • We have a similar situation in our basement where we have a curtains hanging to cover up a botched bulkhead sealing.  Honestly, when I first moved in I didnt even notice it -- I thought the curtains were just there to add accent to the room.  But alas... so we've changed the curtains out twice now in the 3.5 years we've been there, and yeah, the two curtains definitely make the difference.
