So my husband (with my help) is planning my 30th birthday trip at the end of May (my birthday is not until mid-June, but the dates work best for May). Based on flights from the DC area and price, we have decided to go to Mexico. After hours of research, I have narrowed it down to the following four resorts:
Secrets Capri Riveria Cancun
Secrets Silversands Riveria Cancun
Valentin Imperial Maya
Live Aqua Cancun
Anyone have any opinions, pros, cons, etc on any of these resorts? We are going with a group of 6-10 people (couples and single gals).

Some reviews in here:

We spent a week at the Live Aqua in December. This was the first time I did an all-inclusive so I can't really compare it to anything else. I would give it a 4/5, although a week was too much time at the resort.
It's in a good location, really clean, low-key and relaxing. It is definitely worth upgrading to a suite, if possible. The upgrade includes daily cabanas and access to the Aqua Club. We thought the Aqua Club was worth it - there is upgraded liquor, snacks available at all times and it is just a good place to kill some time.
The food was okay. We loved the breakfast at Siete, however everything else was mediocre. I think we tend to have higher standards for food and other people raved it. The wine is garbage and burns to drink so stay far away from it.
The service at the pool can be spotty and the drinks are watered down. We were even tipping a good amount. It wasn't until the second or third day that the servers remembered us and took care of us. Because of that our last day is really fuzzy...
Finally, there really isn't a lot to do at the resort other than take a yoga class, go the gym and sit by the pool. It doesn't have a ton of nightlife and the only bar that stays open late is more of a lounge. We ended up just ordering beer to our room and hanging out on our balcony (perfect for us as a couple).
We went there to relax and unwind after a busy year, which is exactly what we accomplished. If you are looking for a party vibe or a place with lots of daily activities then I would stay somewhere else.
Feel free to PM me with questions.
We love the VIM: adults only and really fun at night. (fun during the day, too!) We go with friends and it's a great place for our group (10-12). We were looking for somewhere with a nightlife and that we didn't have to leave if we didn't want to and this fit the bill perfectly. Our specific search requirements were adults only, swim up bar, and nightlife, then we also took budget into account, and this place fits all of those things for us. The rooms are nice, the food is good, the drinks are great, and it's a really fun time!
Let me know if you have any specific questions. They also have a really active FB page if you want to check that out for info/pictures.
ETA: There are lots of different groups there, not all couples, which might be nice since some of your group is single people. Not just the couple vibe everywhere.
My husband and I stayed at Secrets Capri for about a week and we enjoyed it. The resort is on the smallish side (only 200 rooms) compared with most AIs. The food was pretty good. The Asian restaurant was the best. They give small portions so order a lot of food, lol. The beach was very clean and beach service was good The pool was heated, but it was a little difficult to get a chaise at times. I liked that it was an all preferred resort. My H and I went for a quick getaway, so we stayed in a regular king room with a pool view. The room was very nice and spacious, but I heard from other guests that the suites were much, much better.
We only used the spa once for a couples massage. The staff were very professional. The hydrotherapy circuit is free to all guests and I recommend taking advantage of it.
The resort is a little quiet at night, but we enjoyed the low-key atmostphere. I wouldn't recommend paying full price as expedia and travelocity always have really good deals.
We've had friends stay at both Secrets Capri and Silversands. The review and pictures of Capri look awesome. The couple choose to go there after seeing our Secrets Marama pics. It sounds and looks like the two resorts are very similar.
However, I would avoid Silversands. My bro/SIL went in Oct and were extremely disappointed. The water/beach there is terribly rocky. While in MX, they spent on day at Capri and one day at Maroma and said the beach and food were the worst at Silversands.
If Maroma is in your budget; I would choose that in a hearbeat :O) (Preferred club rooms are a waste of money too IMO)

We stayed at Secrets Capri for our HM and loved it, but I wouldn't want to be there as a single. At least when we went it was 99% couples.
Have you considered/looked at the Royal in Playa Del Carmen? It is adults only AI, but had a great mix of couples and singles. It was a more "fun" vibe than Capri, which was a more "we are on our HM and keeping to ourselves" vibe.
The Royal is also a 5 minute walk to downtown Playa, so you are walking distance to bars and clubs as well.
I am a fan of the Secrets resorts, although I have not been to these two particular ones.
And I agree with this completely. Maroma is beautiful.
We went to RPDC for our honeymoon and loved the resort, but wished there were things going on at night (past 10:30) on the resort. We didn't want to have to leave every night to find something to do. That's what we like about the VIM--stay out 'til 2 with stuff to do the whole time. We LOVED the RPDC resort, but switched to the VIM for the next two times because of the nighttime thing.
