So I got an email yesterday from work that they are not giving us raises and it's possible we might not get one next year either. I was suppost to get a raise at the beginning of the month, now I know why they have been putting it off and ignoring me when I bring it up. Grrr! I think it's time to find a different job. I'm so angry. I think I may leave work early on Thursday just because.

I'm sorry to hear that :-(.... I've really never had a job that had raises since I am a teacher and we have steps and pay freezes, but we generally know what we'll be making from year to year.
I can understand why you are so frustrate... that's not cool! I don't think it's fair to not get a raise two years in a row in a "normal" job... sorry to call it that, but I relate everything to my job, which doesn't relate in this opinion. If you are able to leave early on Thursday-- go for it!!

That sucks! I've never heard of them freezing the steps. And I assume contributions to other benefits will go up, so realistically you're looking at pay cuts.

Oh wow, I'm sorry! That really sucks! I'd definitely start looking for something new, that would drive me crazy!
I'm sorry to everyone that is having to deal with pay/budget-cuts. Hopefully the economy will be on its way up very soon that raises and such can begin again for those dealing without.
Yes it does... We can move over if we complete more education, but you can't move down on the experience part of the ladder. I don't know yet about contributions, but they are cutting some coverages. Last year, the BOE matched 25% of retirement contributions we made, this year 0% matching. They've also made some coverage cuts in our health insurance, and are looking to cut more. Tough economic times we're in...
Ugh. That is so annoying. I think that I would start looking for another job too. The company I work for actually took away 401ks completely for a couple of years and just recently reinstated them.

This is happening to me too. I'm frozen on step 1, and after this school year, our co-pays sky rocket and our insurance cost goes way up. My college reimbursement also got cut so I don't get what most teachers get... but ironically, I just saw this video, which is inspiring. I'll post it!

They're talking about doing this here next year too. And possibly not making us get our Master's, 1. so they don't have to reimburse us for classes, and 2. so they don't have to pay us more when we get it.
Ogrady do you work for the state as well? I got used to those furlough Fridays and was a bit sad when we had to go back to working Fridays.
Emt- Raymond was an EMT for 4 yrs. I was surprised at the little pay that he got. It was so little for so much responsibility. He ended up really hating all the BS and was secretly kinda glad that he got let go because he was so fed up with the ambulance company he was working for. Now he has a job he likes that doesn't require saving a person's life and he gets paid more for it.

I work for the UC system (which is also a part of the state system), the first year we had furloughs I was lucky and basically could use the days as vacation days when I wanted. The last two years we close for "curtailment" over the Christmas break. It is basically a forced closure and those days are unpaid.

Yep, I'm there with you.
You'd think working for the government would be "secure"...not so much.
Stupid congress can't get a budget together, Our raises are frozen for two years and then we have hiring freezes so we have to do more with less. Oh joy.
Really hard to get excited about work these days. I've been looking for a new position for over a year - so glad I have a job while I'm looking for my next job.
