@ f/u on diaper sizing (bit of a PSA)

Before I left for my trip to the States in December, I asked on here about diaper sizing in Europe vs. the US. I finally was able to blow up pictures of the Pampers wrappers from amazon to read the weight recommendations, which were a lot different from the European ones (and there are lbs and kilos on both, so it's not like I converted incorrectly). Based on that, it seemed that even though DD was in 3s over here, she would need 2s in the US. I even found a diaper sizer on the Pamper's US website where you put in LO's height, weight, and age and they tell you the recommended diaper size and it said 2 for her.

So we got to the US, I tried on a 2, and it was definitely the same size as 2s in Europe, and thus too small for DD. Luckily I had told my parents to get a small package of 3s just in case, so we ended up donating the 2s to one of my mom's coworkers with a newborn.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that if you use Pampers, you can just stay with the number you're using in Europe, at least if you're using a 2 or 3.

  • Huh. When we went to the States last year, Bean had to wear a 3 but she was a 5 here. Bug went down a size too, but I can't remember if it was 3 to 2 or 2 to 1.

  • Lila wore the same size over Christmas in the UK that she wears here in the US.

  • We have the same problems! I always find the US diapers are too small on her and seem to have less absorbency. I have to get a size up when we're there.

I also thought this - I had some 3s from here still and the US 3s were noticeably lighter weight. I don't know why that is, but I also had the feeling that they absorbed less.

  • Sizing aside, which Pampers do you prefer? American or European? I'm sure that I can get American Pampers at the commissary, but I've also thought of stocking up a bit. . . but, if European Pampers seem to be preferred, perhaps I won't. How does the cost compare?

Gah! There are so many tiny details that I can drive myself insane about, while prepping for our move.

While in Europe I used the Pampers active fit and liked them just fine. They are pretty light-weight/thin which I like. Here I use the Pampers Sensitive Swaddlers. I think they are a little more expensive there but then again most everything is. I paid ?10 for a package that was 34 diapers (size 4) I think. Here I pay about $30-33 for 156 (size 3) through amazon mom (but that is with a 30% discount). As far as size, we went to Europe when DD was 4 months old and she was in a size 2 here and a size 3 there. When she was 16 months she was in a size 3 here (and still is) and a size 4 there so we always seem to be up one size while there. Also, when you go I would take a several day supply so that you don't have to worry about having to get diapers the first day you are there, I am sure you will have so many other things to worry about the first few days. Good luck with the move! Smile

  • I use Pampers baby dry and like the European ones better. I felt like the US ones were so thin they wouldn't hold hardly anything, but I'm guessing that's just because I was used to the heavier European ones. If you're used to the US ones, then you might feel like the ones over here are like armored underwear - really heavy (relatively speaking, of course).
