People suck...

Seriously.

My H took my Kindle on a trip with him (he was gone for 24 hours) and got home really late last night. He was exhausted and didn't bring anything inside, locked the car and came inside.

This morning, when we went to get his stuff out of the car, the car door was wide open and it had been broken in to.

They went through his bags and the only thing that they took was my new Kindle Fire that I got for Christmas from him. I am now re-thinking my decision of surprising him with an iPad. He's been bugging me forever for one, but this was the first that he took my Kindle out of the house and it's gone.

He says we'll replace it, but that's a lot of money for a replacement, and I don't know where that money is coming from considering we are leaving for Cancun tomorrow for a 5 day trip. I planned on bringing the Kindle with me on the trip...

I know know it's just stuff and not his fault, but I am pretty bummed about it. I was in the middle of a really good book, too.

Sorry for the whining. This just sucks.

Here's a cupcake for your troubles:

Re: People suck...

  • That sucks, but it's not your H's fault. People are crappy.

Did you file a police report? I guarantee that your Kindle is going to turn up in a pawn shop somewhere.

Don't punish your H for something that someone else did. Let it go. You'll get another kindle. In the meantime, go buy the book version of whatever book you were reading to take on your trip with you.

    Have fun in Cancun!

ETA: Stees just reminded me that there are no pawn shops in PA. Which is like the weirdest thing. So maybe it won't turn up in a pawn shop.

  • That is really crappy, I'm sorry that happened to you guys. Ames is right though; go file a police report pronto. You never know where it might turn up and you could end up getting it back. Also, your H feels bad enough as it is and is just trying to make it it up to you.

When we moved the bottom of a box broke and an on the rocks glass that Jay had gotten as a gift fell and broke, not even a big deal, I cried because it had been a gift. I spent a whole day on amazon/ebay/google trying to find him a new one (which I did).

Just let it go and enjoy your awesome trip! Have an umbrella drink for me Big Smile

I'm going to second this -- it's not your husband's fault that people suck.  And don't punish him for something that was totally out of his control.  Your Kindle... His iPad.... this is all moot, and somewhat childish.  Kindles can be replaced.  Hell, even with an iPad, which I'm sure you'll want to use just as much should you still buy it for him.  Just move along....

  • People do suck, and I'm sorry your Kindle got stolen.  I'd be really upset too, probably somewhat at my H for being careless with it... so I'm not going to tell you not to be.

However, being mad won't replace the Kindle- call your car insurance company and talk to them about it, see if you need a police report, etc. and get the process started to replace rather than being upset.

  • I second filing a police report. Because it is winter, they may even follow footprints or tire tracks.  It happened to a friend--they followed footprints right to a neighbor's house.  They could also catch the person if they try to sell it on craigslist, like my BIL did.

  • Don't fancy new things like that come with serial numbers or a tracking device or automatic flares so you can find it if it gets stolen?

This is where I was going to suggest to look. Someone broke into SIL's car and stile her ipod (several years ago), they found it listed on CL a day or so later (she had the serial # written down) and the police set up a sting. Apparently, the guy had broken into several cars b/c they searched his apt after he was arrested and foundd a ton of stuff that had been reported stolen.

Also, I'm sure he feel really bad right now. I wouldn't "punish" him anymore.
