I'm going to Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid in May. Possibly, South of France as well.
What's some must-see sites? Good links/blogs to read? Which city in the south of france do you suggest? Restaurant suggestions? Hotel suggestions? Areas to stay in?
We don't want to be totally touristy but we want to see the things we can't miss, too.
Merci!

Re: France and Spain
Haven't been to Spain yet (going next month!), but in Paris, you must go to . . .
- the Musee D'Orsay
- Louvre
- Eiffel Tower
- Notre Dame
- Latin Quarter
- Versailles (not IN Paris, but SO worth the train ride)
- Luxembourg Gardens (great place to bring a baguette, cheese, and wine and just sit and eat and relax for a while) - probably one of my most favorite spots in Paris
- walk up and down the Seine during the day and then again at night - it's beautiful
I'm sure there will be lots of other ladies who can add more. Have a fabulous trip!

In Barcelona, we absolutely loved going to La Sagrada Famalia. It was even more impressive than I imagined and can totally see why it is still not finished after 100+ years. The outside facades are so detailed and fascinating and the inside is remarkable as well. To me, that is a definite can't miss. We also liked going to La Boqueria and walking around getting some food, as well as tapas hopping in the Gothic Quarter.
In Madrid, I would say the Reina Sofia museum is a can't miss. We enjoyed it more than the Prado. The Prado is a great museum, but we preferred the Reina Sofia. The Royal Palace was also nice. Not sure how long you will be in Madrid, but if you have time, you might want to consider doing a day trip to Toledo.
If you scroll back a few pages there are a couple of Madrid threads in which a bunch of stuff has been recommended.
Madrid was fantastic, I seriously love it.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!

For Paris, I love the ambiance of the Ilse Saint-Louis, the d'Orsay, and bakeries. I think the Paris Museum Pass is a must, not just to save time and money but it'll encourage you to see some smaller or off-the-beaten-path type places you might not bother with otherwise.
For Barcelona, I really loved seeing the Gaudi work. Sagrada Familia is amazing, and I liked hanging out in Parc Guell too. And I thought the shopping was really good there.
I have two blog entries that include Paris and one with Barcelona if you'd like to take a look.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

If you go to the South of France, I assume you will be visiting the French Riviera? If so, I would recommend Nice as your home base. I stayed in Antibes which I did not like as much. I also enjoyed Villefranche, although that is a much smaller town than Nice is.
Thank you for all these suggestions! Definitely going to make note of it.
