tiff - can i ask about these bags?

How many bags are we up to now? And they're going for how much? How much does this chick drop on designer bags? Holy, OMG!!!

Is this the sister with the little girl? (or am I confusing her for someone else?)

And she's talked you into helping her sell these bags or they're at your house and you're just selling them to get rid of them and pocketing the cash? ;-)

Every time I'm on facebook there are more designer bags for sale and I have no clue how someone has that many. Just wow.

Re: tiff - can i ask about these bags?

  • Yes, this is the sister I always omplain about. She can't afford to pay for an apartment and lives with dad, but she has money for bags(ya get me? See my frustration?). No joke, a closet full of coach. I know she still has more she is holding bak.

She is moving in with a boyfriend, and she can't bring her purse stash, and she wants to buy new furniture.

Eh, whatever.  I'm helping her rid it. It's like an episode of hoarders.

  • Oh, and ses getting the money. But it would be nice for her to give me $20 for my time.
  • I'm gonna go ahead and tell you not to hold your breath on that one. She won't be able to afford to pay you for your time, I'm sure.

So I may be kind of a weirdo - but I did happen to add up the total. $1,010. And that one gal said, "I'll take them all." Seriously? All of them?

I think fun bags are just that, fun. I certainly would NOT be able to sell any of my bags and buy furniture with the money. Holy moly. That's just totally insane.

But really. Of course she can't afford an apartment. Duh!  Confused

ETA: I mainly couldn't sell my bags because i bought them on sale at Kohl's or JCPenney's. details...

  • You'd be surprised, you can usually sell a coach at about 40% of what you paid or it, not bad.

I know though, it's obnoxious how much she as spent. Kinda a waste. But, at least she s trying.

If she takes the money and buys another purse, I'll die.

  • I must ask.... b/c I truly do not know

Do women judge other women on their purses?

I have an old ratty black purse from Pennys.   I was in awe on how much these cost used.

Whats full price on a coach bag?

And what's the appeal of Coach, Dooney, Juicy, etc? Like, why Are people willing to pay that much for a bag?

If I'm ever judged on my bag I'm screwed. Currently I'm rockin a $15 super hippy bag from Asian Gifts. It's a straight off of Pearl St. type bag. I can fit my crap plus a couple of Amelie's diapers and a small pack of wipes in that bad boy. Plus, the strap is gigantic so if my hands are full I can tell Owen to hang on to my bag and I don't feel like I'm letting a 4 year old wander in the Target parking lot.

This is me too.  I will have the same purse for at least a year, the only reason I'll switch up is if my husband finally says I need a new one.

People could easily drop $300 or more on a designer bag.  Indifferent

I think people buy it mainly for the Name. I get a lot of my purses at Gordmans - you can get KVZ and Guess purses that are super cute and they always have coupons. And I have never had a bag rip. I can't imagine paying over $100 let alone $1,000 for a purse. And she owns a ton too! It isn't like she saved up for that 1 bag!

If you go to Coach outlets you can get them for I'd say $100-$200 range. Clutches are less expensive. I own 1 clutch that cost like $60 that my brother got me for my birthday.

Personally, I think most of these designer purses are ugly, especially the Coach ones with the big "C"s all over them.

  • I have dropped $300 on a designer bag.  I love Coach bags, but that said, I have 3 purses that I cycle through.  I only buy a new one if I sell off an old one.  I know people who have lots of cheapy purses and switch them often, I am of the opposite thinking, I have 3 expensive bags and switch them infrequently.
  • I am definately guilty of buying these purses.  I certainly wouldn't judget anyone else, but for me it's a treat to myself.  I used to be out of control 5-ish years ago, buying WAY too many but now I've limited myself to two a year.  DH and I are usually around an outlet at least once a year, so I'm usually able to get them a little more reasonably..this last super cute one I found was only 120.00, but would have easily been 300.00 at Von Maur or the full price Coach store.

I'm kind of getting to the point where I'm amost over Coach and I really want an LV or a Burberry bag.  With that being said, I get bonuses four times a year, and it's usually some of that money that is spent on purses, so I don't feel too guilty.  Also, I don't have kids, so I'm sure my life (and extra spending money) will change if that ever happens...

  • I'm kind of a purse whore, but I tend to carry them until they are worn out. The exception being one of the D&B bags that Tiff has posted. It is a HUGE bag that I got a great deal on (cost me $280) and I really thought that I would use it as a diaper bag. I didn't....I only carried it a handfull of times and since then it has been sitting in the closet. It is my only bag that is worth selling....all of the others I have donated to Goodwill.

That said....the bag that I am currently using only cost $80 and is a Montana West....it is a name brand if you run in the "country" circles, but so not a designer pursre.

  • I know some people who do think the purse defines them (not saying that of any of you).  I'm not a purse person.  My MIL asked me if I would drop $400 on a purse.  I told her no because I'm not a purse person but if I had the cash, I would drop $400 on a pair of shoes.

I'll pay $100 on a bag but I use it for a year till it is ragged looking.  If I did have lots of bags, not sure I could stomach having lots of $200 bags sitting in the closet.  I would jsut think of where I could have used that money elsewhere for a vacation.

  • I thought one or two of them were cute but not worth the $ in my opinion. Though, this is coming from someone whose "purse" has been the same diaper bag since 2006 ;) My best friend loves bags and she hands them down to me when she is done with them, so I have a small Guess bag for the few times I go out without kids. She did buy me a pink Coach wallet for Christmas and I love it, but would never have bought it for myself.
  • Ha! I would never spend that much on a purse besides I don't think they are that cute. I thought my kohls 40 buck purse on sale with a coupon was a lot but I was feeling mom haggish with my wallet in the diaper bag and needed something small and cute like I carried prebaby.

I would never drop $400 on shoes, so each person has their perferences!  Bags way outlast shoes.  :)

  • I'm a fashion-dense cheapa$$.  I too feel "spendy" when I drop $40 on a purse from Kohl's, and I use the same purse every single day.  I get a new one every 2 years or so.  I'm the same way with shoes.

I'm a purse whore, too, who won't spend more than $70 on shoes.  I have a few Coach bags I rotate and I love every one of them.   I've never paid more than $200 for one, but they last forever.  I've never had one that went ragged on me (and Coach will fix that for you if they do).  I've been carrying the same one for close to 3 years, day in and day out, and short of a few pen marks on the inside, it looks brand new.  To each his own :)
