So I went to the doctor..

And I am officially diagnosed with Poly cystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS.   http://women.webmd.com/tc/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-topic-overview

I've always thought I had it based on my symptoms..I um..have them ALL.  But it was still SO tough to hear from my doctor that the blood tests confirmed it.  She said it will take longer and be much harder to get pregnant, but isn't a death sentence.   She said when I do get pregnant, I have a greater chance of miscarriages.

So please...put my in your prayers sometime?  I'm real bummed out.

(this is going to be a semi XP on GP)

  • **HUGS**

I'm glad your doctors were able to identify this and you can plan accordingly! Just remember, there are so many women with PCOS that have healthy pregnancies!

I am crossing my fingers extra tight for you because I was also diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago and though I'm not currently TTC, I hope to in a few years

  • Aww, hunny.  You'll be in my prayers all the time.  I'm glad you were able to get a doctor's confirmation on this.  Miracles have happened before - so by the grace of god you will get one too!  You deserve it.  Don't give up hope!!  xoxo

  • Definitely keeping you in my prayers and Margaret too that the PCOS isn't a big obstacle. At least you know what the issue is so you can perhaps address some of the things to increase your chances!

  • At least you have a diagnosis now and can work with it.  You are in my prayers!

  • Oh no!  Sometimes it's comforting just to have answers, and then you can work with it properly.  Everything is crossed for you, just please don't lose hope!! XO

  • I have PCOS too. I was diagnosed right before I got married. I understand how you feel. You can start by eating healther and exercise a lot. I know if I am under 120lb I do see my period every month. If I gain weight it skips a couple of months. Although, we are not ready for a baby, my doctors did say it is possible. I will keep you in my prayer and if you need to chat we are here.

  • It's NOT a death sentence! I was actually relieved when I got my diagnosis in October b/c it meant I finally had a reason for everything that was happening (or in my case NOT happening) with my body! I know plenty of women who have gotten pregnant and had healthy babies with PCOS. Are you going to go on Metformin?

  • Hugs....hopefully now that you have an answer to why its not happening the doctors will know the course of action to make it happen.
  • ugh - that sucks - but again - answers are good and now you can hopefully move on to a solution and work on baby making soon enough!

best of luck and positive nestie vibes coming your way!

  • <HUGS>

Even though you thought you had it by all the symptoms, it's never easy to hear your thoughts are actually true.  Like the other girls said, at least with knowing, the doctors will know exactly what to look for.  Lots of prayers and good thoughts for baby!

  • Nothing is impossible!! Always remember that - keeping you in prayer, and sending many hugs your way!

  • I don't know much about PCOS (or anything, actually) but it sounds like you have a lot of support/understanding right here!  Ditto everyone else that answers are a great start, even if it's not the answer you hoped for. Hang in there - it'll happen!
  • Barb, first, I am sorry, because I know how it feels getting news like this. It is hard. But, at the same time, it is news. I knew that I had endo, but once it was confirmed it was a hard pill to swallow. Endo can also make it a lot harder to get (and stay) pregnant, but here I am...FINALLY! I really suggest looking into the ways you can adjust your diet, because sometimes that can make a big difference. I also started taking a lot of vitamins that naturally help with endo, and I got my BFP two months later. Might be just a coincidence, but I like to think it helps. Do plenty of research of different things that can help (both medically and naturally) and hopefully you will be in my boat, soon!!! Keep strong, my little lady!!!

  • I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I know when I was on the IF boards, there were a ton of PCOS women who were able to get pregnant. At least know you know what you are up against and I really feel that you will get there. Have you thought about going to an RE? I think a lot of OBs aren't great at managing this type of thing.

  • They are not putting me on Metoformin because my insulin levels are just slightly (ever so) above normal.  They think that the Clomid should be enough, but if nothing in 3 months, then that's what it will be,

And we are checking into our IF insurance right now because my OB referred me to  an RE (IF) doctor.

  • With your insulin levels a little high, my sister's best friend was put on some type of meds that are used to help that, and she was pregnant two months later...she had to do IVF to get her twins before that! She was told there was NO way she was getting pregnant without IVF...you might ask around and see if you can figure out what that medicine is. They basically are discovering that it is now helping women get pregnant when it was supposed to be for increase blood sugar levels...
