Whiney McWhinerston

I took my GD test this morning. I felt like vomiting. And even now I just feel ick. I don't want to be at work.

They lowered the range so I will probably fail according to my doctor since I failed the 1 hour last time.

She is concerned about GD anyway because this month I had a larger weight gain (up till now the whole pregnancy my weight gain has been low, much lower than Dagger). Also the baby is huge and my fluid level is on the high side of normal, so those are potential warnings. Of course, I had this same scenario last time and didn't have it.

But, I just feel worse from the test this time. I threw up a little in my mouth. I am not sure how I will make it through the 3 hour.

And Mr. Winged brought me a huge box of chocolates this morning and I want them all right now. But not, since i feel nauseous and I don't want to do anything that could hurt Drone.

Re: Whiney McWhinerston

  • I don't want to do anything that could hurt Drone.

...is Drone the name of your baby?

  • Drone is the new Dagger.
  • I felt way worse after the 1 hour than the 3 hour.  There is hope!

  • Sorry winger.  I hope you pass, and get to avoid the 3 hour. I made my appt to take the one hour today, and I'm not looking forward to it.

  • Dawg, last time I was totally fine on teh one hour. On the 3 hour, I felt like death the first hour but I did get better. I thought I was going to throw up though. If you do, you have to redo it.

Today I almost threw up and I had protein on my stomach so I am worried that this time it will not go so well. I just cannot take sugar. This whole pregnancy I have not wanted carbs and sugar as much.

  • If you fail the one hour, do you have to take the 3 hour?  Could you just proceed as if you do have GD, and avoid the test?  The only thing I know about GD is that if you have it you have to follow a special diet for the remainder of your pregnancy.  I don't know what else it changes.  If it's just the diet, and you don't want carbs  anyway, maybe it would be easier to just eat that way?

  • Our doctor office requires it because, while yes, it is generally diet change, there can also be a chance of needing insulin which the test numbers can help determine. And, it is good to know if it is so they can proceed with anything to ensure the baby is ok.
  • oh, boo.  I figured there was probably a reason it was medically necessary. Sorry :(

Sorry Winged. I don't really remember the 1 hr test. I remember drinking the gross orange stuff but nothing beyond drinking it. I think it took me awhile to get it down.

Where did you get Drone from? I was not on when you picked Dagger so I don't know where that came from either, but I'm here now. So I want to know.

  • was dagger a big baby?  when i was pregnant with e, my doctor's office swore i must have had missed GD with noah because he was so big, so they had me just do the 3 hour glucose test. and i was fine.

some people just have big babies.

  • Yeah Dagger was big. TSD, dagger and drone are both inside jokes between my husband and I. We find them hilarious but they probably would bore most. Dagger is the name of a yucca palm in the desert where we got engaged. We teased my MIL that we liked it do much we would name our first born either that or The Claw. and Drone is for this Drone metal that he listens to and says "my music sounds like noise to you" in a funny voice. He was listening to it when I got my positive.

Ahh. Thanks. Thought it was a board thing. Both sound better than "Parasite" which was mine. I had a hard time feeling connected while he was an inside baby.

well, sounds like you could just be a big baby maker. noah was born at 40w1d and he was 9lbs14oz. evan was induced at 39 weeks and was 8lbs1oz.

my sister's first baby was born a week late and he was 9lbs12oz. she is currently pregnant and due at the beginning of march and the baby was already 3 lbs a few weeks ago, so they are talking induction at 39 weeks with her as well.

would that be an option for you, given the size stuff?

i know...this isnt about size. except for now it is ;)

  • I was induced with Dagger at 40 w due to his size (mostly his head size. I grow babies with huge brains) this kid is bigger. I think the concern is that combined with the weight and fluid level. We have not discussed induction beyond just saying that I was not interested in having a c section due to size which was why she took dagger at 40 w. but I'm not interested in inducing before my due date or if I'm not softening or dilating or anything due to the same concern of c section. I love the doc, she's very responsive to my needs and requests without being a total pushover.

i felt the same way about induction...and i loved that my doctors were not pro-c/s. i was 3cm dilated for like, three weeks before i was induced so i felt comfortable with that.

i really hope it just turns out to be a big baby situation without the gd looming about.

  • Yeah I was at 2cm and effacing and he was low head down when they induced. I actually developed pre-e from labor so it was lucky I was in the hospital. And they stopped the induction mess about 1 hour after they started due to his heart rate but then my body continued on its own and my water broke naturally so they think I would have gone into labor on my own either way. And thanks. I hope it's not GD. not just because I love carbs but because I know that's a struggle for the baby I would rather not have.
  • I'm sending non-GD vibes for you but you have to promise to send some back my way in 2 weeks. Is there a time limit for finishing the yucky orange drink?

  • You have to drink it within 5 minutes.

Yes, and it's carbonated (or at least it was at my office. I've heard that it's not some places) which is problematic if you never drink carbonation. I wanted to vomit on so many levels.

I don't do much carbonation any more but I've been nervous about it making me want to puke ever since my last appt. A lady in the waiting room was waiting out the hour and told  her husband it was like chugging Sunny D that someone dumped a whole bag of sugar into. I gagged just hearing that description.

Bob thinks that this will finally cure my love for the crack juice at McDonald's, which is fountain Hi-C Orange.
