Re: SO questions

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one?  There really wasn't that 'moment'.  We just clicked right from the start and could talk for hours and hours and he was just so darn nice, which was a refreshing change from my previous boyfriend!

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)!  Caring, busy, messy. :)

Tell us a story about them. This was from a long time ago, but I think it's cute.  When Pat was little he was on a walk with his parents and he was riding his bike.  He begged his parents to get in the bushes and act like bears and when he'd ride by they could scare him.  They kept saying no, but finally they gave in.  So they got in the bushes to wait and Pat rode his bike backwards for a while so he wouldn't know where they were.  So his parents heard him coming and started shaking the bushes and yelling 'rawr, rawr' like a bear would.  They heard an adult man say "um, excuse me...is Patrick your son?" so they came out of the bushes and sure enough Pat had fallen off his bike and hurt himself!  His parents were mortified for acting so silly to an adult, not to mention Pat getting hurt!

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? I am not sure if it was a moment however, I remember Brian saying he wanted to move back home and go to college there. He said he wanted to move back up so he could work and go to school as well as save up to move in together.  Right then, I knew.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! caring loving funny

Tell us a story about them.

I remember when I would make Brian lunches back in HS. It was fluffernutters (pb and marshmallow fluff sandwiches). Since we had 4th period math together, he always asked for them during class b/c he was hungry. Even though lunch was right after class. Little did I know, he did not eat bkfst b/c he was waiting for those sandwiches come 4th period. I always say, a way to man's heart is through his stomach. :-)

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? I honestly have no answer for this. Partly because I can't think of a moment or collection of moments, but also because neither of us believe in "the one". We both think that there are multiple people out there that we could be happy with, but since we met and enjoy each other we chose to make a life together.

That was kind of off topic, sorry Smile

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! intelligent, supportive, willing

Tell us a story about them. One of the funny ones that I can share on the internet is related to his officiating. He was working a football game two years ago and was the guy who is in the middle of the action. It was a rainy night, so the field was muddy. Well, after the snap he didn't get out of the way of the big linebackers on time and got taken out. He came home with his white knickers all muddy (I had to soak them multiple times over 48 hours to get it all out!), but didn't tell me what happened. He was watching the sports on the 10:00pm news and called me in to watch. They got it on camera and I saw it on the news. Totally took away the annoyance at having to deal with the mud stains to see that. It was hilarious!

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one?  I wouldn't say there was a particular moment that I knew I would marry him but I knew very early on.  I had dated quite abit after my divorce and I hadn't felt like this about any of those guys, not even close so I knew I weas on to something.  In fact, I don't even think I felt that way about my ex-H.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)!  Caring, loving, fun

Tell us a story about them.  He is seriously the most caring person ever.  When he was little his younger brother would terrorize him.  He would punch A, stab him with pencils, and the list goes on and on.  A never lifted a finger to hurt his little bro.  He said he didn't want to hurt him.  One day he told his mom that his little bro was hitting him and he'd had enough.  She told A to hit him back!  A was hesistant to do so because again, he didn't want to hurt his baby bro, but finally he decided to go for it and his bro never hit him again.  A said he felt horrible about it.

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? Like the rest of you, there wasn't a particular moment, just a culmination of events. I think the biggest thing for me was seeing how FF always made B a priority in anything we did. When we went camping for the first time, he got a bike trailer so B could go bike riding with us. When we went to Lake Michigan for a camping trip, he brought a set of sand toys. He always would say his misses "us", meaning me and Brody both. Aside from having the same life goals, ambitions, ways we handle finances, closeness with our families and common interests, treating B like a priority in his life was just the icing on the cake.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! Hardworking, thoughtful, fun!

Tell us a story about them. Oh this one is funny. Back in the day when FF had first joined our 4-H Horse Club, he was 11 or 12 years old, and I was 12 or 13. Either way, he was the annoying boy to me. You know, the one that intentionally picked on you because he had a crush/liked you. He always kept referring to Starlight (my horse) as a "foreign horse" because she was an Arabian (his horse, Reebok, was a Quarter Horse). Anyway, it was the week of fair and we had to camp out at the fairgrounds all week in case there was an emergency with our horses (not to mention that showing started at 8am every day). Each family would take turns providing a homemade meal for dinner so we didn't have to eat fair food and we could spend time together as a club. One night I not only spilled my salad all over the table, but then I dumped Ranch dressing everywhere. FF said, "Amanda did it!!!" and for the rest of the week, whenever something happened it was always, "Amanda did it!" If someone spilled a wheelbarrow of sawdust, "Amanda did it!". Or if someone ran into someone else, "Amanda did it!". You get the idea...hence why I thought he was an annoying little boy lol.

That's still our running joke today. If something is spilled/dropped/messed up...you guessed it. Amanda did it! But it's not nearly as annoying now that we're adults Smile

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? There are 3 that I can think of. 1) first time I was at his apartment and saw his fridge. He had teddy peanut butter, whole wheat bread & skim milk. I knew we were on the same page about eating styles for the most part (an ex ate fast food 2x a day!). 2) One time when he came home with me and he ran into the house before I did because I was HANGRY and he wanted to warn my family (ie, he got me). 3) The first Christmas/ Hanukkah. I brought my menorah up since it was the first night of Hanukkah and I lit it with his family and his mother said "thank you for sharing this with us" - so warm, accepting, comforting to hear.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! Strong. Independent. Loving.

Tell us a story about them. When we watch horrible reality tv, he gets pissed of and yells at the tv... like when someone is being bigoted/ homophobic on Real World, he gets pissed off... or when the girls on Teen Mom are being dumb, he argues with them. He likes to put on a tough guy persona but really, was raised to be accepting of everyone and stand up for those who aren't accepted. It makes me know I chose a good guy (who is very into reality tv).

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one?  No, I don't think so.  DH and I had known each other for a couple of years when we started dating, once we started dating, we had quite a strange ride (never did we have problems in our relationship, just some challenges life presented, and came out stronger than ever), I knew from the beginning that he and I had so much fun together and I didn't want the fun to end. And it still hasn't!Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! Funny, Kind, Go-getterTell us a story about them.  DH has always talked about getting a penguin, as long as I can remember.  So for Christmas, my ILs got him a stuffed penguin.  A couple weeks ago when the whole family was here together around Christmas time, my niece was playing around with this penguin, since we don't really have a bunch of toys.  A couple hours later I went to get something out of the freezer and the penguin was in there.  I asked Laura why the penguin was in the freezer and she said "Well, Uncle Logan told me to put him in there beause he likes it in there".  I hollered to L in the other room about it and he says "Of course!  Why wouldn't she put the penguin in the freezer?" It was so funny, just typical of his sense of humor.  He's going to be a great dad one day!

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? I swear it was the day he asked me to be his girlfriend, which was when I was 16. He sent me on a scavenger hunt to collect puzzle pieces that when I put it together it said be mine? Right then my heart melted and I knew I would never let this guy go.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)!  Charming, romantic, passionate

Tell us a story about them. My mom was ok with him spending the night after we had dated for a while, esp on nights like prom/homecoming or late nights. His mom was NEVER ok with this (even though he was over 18) so he would always tell his mom he was staying the night at a friends. Well he wouldnt inform that friend he was doing that. So one morning Bobby called Andy's house and asked to talk to Andy. His mom said well I thought he was at your house so Bobby covered for him and his mom bought it. My MOH included in her speech that Andy no longer had to lie to his mom about staying at Bobby's . Still cracks me up!

Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? Much like Jo and Matt, we don't subscribe to "the one" theory. However, the first time I realized I loved him was when we had been dating about 2 months and we decided to go to lake placid, NY b/c we discovered it was one of both of our favorite places. It was like 4-5 hours away, and when we got there, I had gotten a VM from my mom saying they had put my childhood dog , Bandit, to sleep that day. He was awesome with helping me through it and super good with all my tears. :)

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! Hysterical! patient. stubborn.

Tell us a story about them. Oooh, this is totally embarrassing for him! When he was a senior in college he worked for one of his favorite professors. He's 5 years older than I was, and I was 19, so he was 24. He apparently didn't drink that often, but one day all the guys who worked for the professor (who were friends) went to Smokey Bones b/c school was winding down and they wanted drinks. They got there at about 2, and I met them there at about 6, and we stayed until about 11 or so....He wasn't a huge drinker, but drank from 2-11...He was in horrible shape, and on the way home, threw up in my car. All the rest of the night, he just kept telling me how that I was too good for him, and he loved me so much, and how that I should just leave him. It was hysterical b/c he was completely out in left field and he had never told me how he felt before.. Of course, I was upset about my car, but I ended up getting a new one like 2 weeks later. And he cleaned my old one for me. lol!

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? I don't think there was ever "the" moment, but I do recall sitting out at dinner one night with him [we had only been dating a couple months] when he asked me what my wedding looked like.

But we've also been pretty simpatico since the beginning.  Mom calls him the yin to my yang.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! Kind, rational, joker.

Tell us a story about them. I guess the story is more about SIL, but when they were younger she would always try to hide in his room.  One day he took a shower, got out, wrapped the towel around his waist and walked into his room.  Once in the room he dropped the towel and was "hanging out" in his room.  Little did he know that his sister had hidden under his bed.  Shortly thereafter she sort of called out to him, "jaaaay-ce?"

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one?

I knew the moment I saw him I was in trouble and this guy was different. I knew for sure he'd be my husband one day the night I met his immediate family. We became exclusive that very night and the rest is history.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)!

    Compassionate, loving, gentlemen

    A story about him:

His older brother, Melvin, wasn't a fan when Alexi was an infant. He somehow closed Alexi's hand in a drawer and broke his little baby finger. Alexi had to wear a teeny tiny cast for awhile.

  • Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one?

Yes, our second official date.  I remember sitting in this restaurant with him in the neighborhood near the art museum in Philly where the first part of our date was (there was a jazz concert where you could sit on the big staircase just inside, and then roam around the museum).  I don't remember what exactly it was, just that I knew that I was going to marry him.

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)!

    sarcastic, goofball, considerate

Tell us a story about them.

Day after the aforementioned date we met up in Philly again with my bff and her then-boyfriend (now husband) for lunch.  I took the bus as I lived in the city then, and don't care for driving.  He asked if I wanted to come to NJ (he lived on the other side of the river that separates Philly from S. Jersey) but I said no because the weather was getting bad and I didn't want to get stuck there.  So I waited for the bus, and the snow got worse, and halfway home I called him and asked for directions.  Got home, packed a bag, and got in my car, to drive through a snowstorm (even though I hate to drive) and got to his place.  Maybe that was when I really knew how I felt, ha ha. We were snowed in all weekend.

Fast forward to Monday morning, when we both had to go to work, we had to dig our cars out as it had snowed several feet.  It was all (parallel) street parking.  I didn't notice, but he got his car out first and he left and went down the block.  He came back and parked again when he saw I couldn't get my car out.  I just remember him coming over to help me, I had no idea that he had left and come back.  We got mine out, and then he got stuck again.  I thought about going back for him, but didn't because it was so hard the first time, and in hindsight I'm glad I didn't because I probably would have gotten stuck again and perpetuated the cycle.

Was there a moment when you knew your SO was the one? Hmm, not a moment for "the one," but me realizing I loved him. That happened when my sister and I took a trip to Italy. We would go to the pay phones and call our men once a day. At the end of DH and I's conversation, when we would say goodbye, I kept feeling like there was something missing that I wanted to say. Then I realized it was ILY, but I didn't want to say it on the phone. After we got back, he immediately went on vacation with his family, and while we were on the phone one night, he accidently said it for the first time, and then sputtered and it was awkward, sorta. Mostly b/c he didn't want to say it over the phone the first time. Ok, so that wasn't the answer to the question, but whatev!

Describe your SO in three words (only three words)! sarcastic, stubborn, intelligent

Tell us a story about them. This isn't a story so much. When he was little, he was chubby. His nickname from his friends (to this day) is Wheels, b/c apparently when they would play baseball as kids, Brian could really run around the field quickly, and somehow Wheels  became his nickname. I guess he wheeled around the bases? I dunno. Crazy Kids.
