S/O Malibu's Nerve Wracking Post (TIP Mamas Q?)

I got my first postpartum period in November. I was waiting on December's with no dice. I stopped BF in November because with my period also came a cessation of being able to produce breast milk. Its almost the end of January and no dice on my period again.

We've been TTA with charting to avoid & condoms. So far we've been super careful and no condoms have broken to our knowledge. Just to be on the safe side I took at pg test yesterday with a digital and it gave me a -No. I am perfectly ok with that since we don't plan to try for number 2 until October 2012.

My question, for those who have an idea, is that it is normal or expected to skip a period (or two?) after you give birth right? I am just puzzled as to why I got it in November (confirmed by midwife at my appointment where I was menstruating) and nothing since? The tests all say negative, so what gives? I am confused!

  • You may want to f/u with your OB/GYN.   If I recall, some irregularity is normal, but I may just be making that up.

Were you irregular prior to having a baby?

  • irregularity is normal, but after the first you're supposed to be (mostly) back to normal as long as you're not BFing.  And that said I'm still (yes still) BFing and I'm relatively regular again.

If you're pissing neg, I'd wait til you skip Feb's and then call your dr.

    No. 33 day cycles.

I'll see what happens in Feb. Thanks ladies!

If it's always 33 days for you, then that is your regular.

Usually its 30-33 days. So yes it was regular before.

The "no" was to say that I was not irregular prior to pregnancy. Sorry about that if it was not clear-- typing with one hand. Stick out tongue

  • Yeah, that's pretty regular.

I have never been regular, so after DS #1, I started again, then went 30-something days, then 40-something days, then it disappeared completely.    But I figured that would happen, since that was my MO before pregnancy (and why I needed fertility drugs to help me conceive).

But, I'm not aware of any problems like mine that would manifest after pregnancy.

  • I'm pretty sure one of the moms in my BirthMonth group mentioned that cycles can be screwed up for up to a year post partum, once they start.

I can't tell you about mine because it is messed up from the Mirena too
