(With the BBB or related)

We did a technology trade in program through a retailer for our old laptops.  Online analysis said we would receive $50.  Fine. We mail computers in.

Get an email saying that after further examination, they will only give us $9 (for two working laptops) as they claimed that the operating systems were uninstalled.  I used both computers the morning that I sent them in (ensured there were no personal documents left, etc) and am 100% confident that they worked fine.  Email told me to respond TO THAT EMAIL DIRECTLY if I did not agree with this amount and they would send the items back to me at no charge.  I had one week to do so. I did so within 24 hours of receiving the email.

Get another email a week later saying my $9 is being processed and I will see it in 2-4 weeks.  Send angry response and forward my first email which responded well within their deadline, asking for my items returned to me. (No phone number provided in emails). Get a brief response saying their manager would look into it, and finally given a phone number.  I get a gift card for $9 in the mail.

DH calls.  They tell me we will have the correct refund amount (instead of our computers) in 2 weeks.

3 weeks go by. Nothing.  We cut some slack due to the holidays.  Another week goes by. Nothing.

DH calls again. Gets the guy's name.  It was a Monday, he said we'd get a gift card by Wednesday and that he would try to make it for $100 instead.

That was last week.  Obviously things happened on our side, so we didn't follow up til yesterday.  Never got a gift card last week.

DH talks to someone new yesterday.  Says the first guy is out sick. She thinks she can get us $60 and will send it by paypal.  He says he will wait til today to talk to the first guy who said $100.

Calls back today.  First guy can only do $50, sends it to paypal.  Got that amount.

Am I wrong to be seriously irritated by their customer service and the fact that it has been over a month and we did not get the extra compensation we were offered?  Or should I let it go?

  • I'd complain.

    That whole company sounds shady.

Sorry you are dealing with this on top of everything else.

    I agree.  :(

  • Let me guess....Best Buy?  I would definitely file a complaint.  We attempted that as well, we were told $150 online for my laptop and when we brought it into the store, they said it wasn't worth anything.

Also, once you request the laptops back, it was theft to not return them.  You could seek help from the police if you were so interested.

No, but I don't patronize them any more after a debacle last year with a gift return at Christmas.  Seriously-why does customer service suck?

DH thinks my expectations are just too high, so I considered dropping it,  but I'm irritated.

    Thanks girls.
