And this, my friends, is why Joanns stinks...
After I washed up the fabric and lined it up properly--this is the "lovely" cut of fabric I have left. It was so skewed on the bolt and you know that the cutters do NOT make any attempt to line the fabric up along the selvage let alone the grain. Why do I go there????????????

If i notice the bolt is really wonky I fix it before I take it to the table. There are 1-2 ladies at my Joann's that will make the effort, but I never know if I will be lucky enough to get them when I'm in line.
what does the writing say? SIL is obsessed w/ owls, I might have to go get some of that to make the niece something

In defense of JoAnns, it looks like a cotton fabric, and unless it says "pre-shrunk" it will shrink in the washer/dryer. That's kinda why you wash it before you sew it, so that the fabric shrinking doesn't affect the finished garment.
I'm sorry that it shrunk, though.
Stand up for something you believe in.
There is no defense for shrinking here. The fabric didn't shrink that way--it was cut improperly. Shrinking does not cause one side of the fabric to become 3 inches shorter than the other. I know why you prewash fabrics and can tell you that fabric will shrink uniformly--not 3 inches on one side only.
I have enough fabric for my project--my point is they cut AWFUL there and their "rules" are such that you pay for every inch. If I ask for 1/2 yard, I should expect to get 1/2 yard. I shouldn't have to pay for 3 or more inches just to get 1/2 yard. Their employees should be trained better.
I sent a photo to their corporate office--we'll see if I ever hear from them.

Lucky--it says "Owl be yours" and "Whooooo loves you?"

Wow, that is terrible. My Joanns does that, too, and it is really infuriating. One time, I even asked the girl to realign it and cut it carefully and she got really snarky with me, insisted that it was on grain and then when I got it home, it was still all messed up.
I think I'll start taking pictures, though, and sending them to the corporate offices. At least it will make me feel better.
I ALWAYS have to "fix" it before they cut! And heaven forbid that they give you 1/64th inch more than you are going to be charged for.

Ugh! There is one lady here who is obsessive about making sure they cut it straight. And I love her.

I have taken fabric back to them before because I got it home and it was all wonky.
The ladies at my joanns are usually pretty good about lining things up and giving me extra if it's all crooked on the end.
I hope you hear back from corporate. They need to have better quality control across stores!
My Joann's is terrible about this. Its why I love my LQS, the always make sure its straight!

I have that fabric!
I used it for a mug rug!
That seriously sucks, though. I would be calling to complain.

My Joanns is pretty good and most of the cutters will give you a bit extra if it's not been cut straight.
Although I don't have too much experience with them (yet), I haven't had a problem (so far).
I hate that.
