I got a job offer this morning!

Now for the dreaded 2 weeks notice - any advice on writing a letter? This is going to go down like a bad break-up.

Re: Thank you..Thank you..Thank you!

  • Yay! That's fantastic news! Congrats.

I have no idea on how to write the letter - I've never had to do one.

  • Yay congrats! My advice is to keep the letter really professional.

You can say something like: This letter serves to inform you that I am giving my 2-week notice. My last day of employment will be on so and so date. I have been offered another position which is a better fit for my professional career path. Thank you for the opportunity to work for xyz company.

  • Congrats, that's awesome! Yay!

As for the resignation letter, I've always kept mine along the lines that starsailor suggested. I hear you on the dread, but as a friend always said to me about these things, it's just business, it's not personal. Stay professional and do what you have to do for you. :)

  • Congrats! That is great news!

Regarding the letter, I like the suggestions that the other ladies have mentioned.

  • Yeah congratulations on the new job.

  • Congrats on the new job!

As for the letter, keep it short and sweet (and professional). You don't need to include any explanation as to why you are taking the other job; it's none of their business.

  • Congrats, that's so exciting! I know you have been looking forward to this for a long time.

I like what the others suggested about the resignation letter - short, sweet and polite.

  • Congrats!  I agree with the other ladies, but you may want to talk to someone in person prior to handing in a letter.  If you do talk to someone ahead of time, I would add something to the letter along the lines of "As I discussed yesterday with xxx,"

    Good luck!
